Anyone out there struggling with being home all the time and trying to lose the weight??

Name: Irene | Date: Mar 5th, 2008 2:50 AM
im home all day but losing weight is just happening without me trying cause im ill...
just be happy with what ever weight you are shelli,
just remember to eat sensibly, park your car as furthest away you can so you can walk it instead, drink plenty water, drink a glass of water before each meal & only eat what you really need to eat, dont over eat just for the sake of finishing whatever you have on your plate, in fact every time you serve yourself put half, and eat more frequently, always have celery & carrot sticks in refrigerator already cut up so whenever you feel peckinsh, grab it & eat!!
i wish you all the best & bless you,
hope i could help without upsetting anyone or trying to come across as know it all x

i'm just a little confused with this post....

???

what does problems losing weight have to do with being a stay at home mom?

you can still eat right, and excercise....it's just up to you to get up and do it. put the kids in a stroller and go for a walk or run....or get one of those buggy things that attach to the back of a bike and go biking.....or do workout videos in your home...or get a babysitter and go to the gym. even some gyms have daycare right there, so you they can be looked after while you workout.

for me personally...i've made the extra effort to eat right....but HONESTLY....i'm too fkin' lazy to excercise...lol...i could do it if i wanted to....but yep....i'm a lazy bum when it comes to excercise. i'll go for walks with the kids, but that's about it.

so i don't think it's any harder to lose weight while being a sahm, than it is for any other person.

Thanks Irene for your reply. You said your ill, is it just the flu or something? I hope all is well. About the weight well that's just it. I'm not one of those people that are happy being overweight. I look smaller than I actually am. I am now doing weight watchers and started last Friday. I have lost weight in the past but gained it back. I have hormone problems due to a birth control pill that I took over a year ago. My biggest problem now is that I don't sleep and that isn't good for weight loss either. Your not at all upsetting me, however I know all the tricks in the book it's just a struggle. Do you have weight issues? It's nice talking about this, it kinda helps too. I do the whole weight watchers thing without paying and going to the meetings, so to get the encouragement through someone that knows what it's like is always nice. Someone that doesn't know you to judge you, do you know what I mean? Anyway hope to hear back from you.... Whatever sickness your going through I hope and pray you feel better. Shelli

I meant this as a discussion for stay at home moms who struggle with weight issues. Also sure its hard when your a sahm, I mean your at home all day and face it what you feed your kids sometimes it isn't always something you need to eat for yourself. I mean I give my kids healthy foods but they also get cookies, crackers, etc,,,, Also I don't sleep so it is hard to lose the weight without proper rest and without rest there comes no energy to take the kids out in the stroller. I appreciate your comment though...Shelli

Bless your heart. I will say prayers for you. Do you mind me asking how old you are? I can't imagine your pain, however you sound so strong. You also just within the two messages sound like a very sweet person. I hate to hear people struggling with illness. It breaks my heart. Ya know I get very angry sometimes of all the illness out there, and i ask God why? Why do we have to go through so much in this life. I do hope one day God gives us all the answers we long for, In the mean time please take care of yourself. I know I don't know you but you sound like a very kind and caring soul and I don't know how you feel about religion or God, but I will keep you in my prayers. May God watch over you and heal you with his healing touch and keep you safe. In His name... Amen. If you want to keep in touch that would be great! Take care Irene, Shelli

ok now i understand better shelli!!! lol....

i don't know....with the sleep thing...with my previous job i got LESS sleep....so when I worked i had less energy, AND less time to try and lose weight. i guess it depends on each individual and their lifestyle. but i can see now your logic. :-)

Good morning Irene, that is so wonderful that you are going there. God will heal you and he knows you have your children who need you. I have said a special prayer for you and will continue to pray for you throughout this journey. You are a precious person and that is so hard to find these days. Please keep me informed of how your doing and have a wonderful time in God's name and I know He will take care of you, for He says He will take care of his sheep. You go with peace and comfort of knowing that. My prayers will stay with you. God Bless you and keep you. Shelli =)

Thanks bmes, yes it seems as if my sleeping is extremely shortened these days and scientist have studied that without the right amount of sleep it takes years off your life and I might get maybe 3 or 4 hours. There have been times where I got maybe 8 hours in 3 days. I have been to the doctor and he had given me Ambien and however it did work after taking it the 3rd day, It made me want to sleep for the next 2 or 3 days all day and all night, and lets face it with children you can't exactly do that. I started back my exercising yesterday and hope that will help me with my sleep. I did however go to bed after 2, but had to get right back up at 5:30 for my child to go to school. I watch 2 other children and they are both toddlers so I can't go back to sleep. It's tough and I am doing Weight Watchers plus exercising so hopefully it will all pan out for me. With prayers I do hope so. Thanks for the reply.

I think i'M LUCKY AND HAVE A GOOD WEIGHT CONSIDERING I HAVE 5 KIDS (123LBS) but just like everyone else I'd also like to drop a few pounds not much just a few, because i'm short (5'2") and the weight shows. this is what i've found works for me but i have no will power to change it, lol pop seems to keep weight on me i drink to much of it, i tried cutting it out of my diet once (lasted 6 months) and i lost 10lbs. If i could ever muster the strength to that again i think i could drop the weight again but boy do we all love something that does us no good!!!!!!

what is the problem WHY you can't go to sleep? because of the kids? or because you're just wired, from the crazy day? that was my problem for a bit...i was tired but just couldn't fall asleep. and by the time i'd finally fall asleep, my son would wake up to eat, and by the time i fell back asleep AGAIN, it would be time to get up. so for a couple months there i was only getting maybe 3 hours of sleep a night....so my doc prescribed these pills. they didn't make you drowsy, but more just relaxed my body so i could fall asleep easier. and if i had to wake in the middle of the night it was no problem...the pills didn't interfere with it at all. i used these pills for about a month and now i have no problem sleeping anymore.

Name: bmes | Date: Mar 5th, 2008 3:18 PM
i guess i shold say that I have no problem falling asleep anymore....but i still don't get AS MUCH sleep as I should...my son is a pain in my ass right now!!! lol....

Well I'm on my feet more than ever as a SAHM. I think it's harder to lose weight when you have a baby, as I can never get time to exercise or go to the gym or anything like that.

Like today I wanted to go for a walk, but Joey decided he wouldn't take his 11am feed, and decided to cry for about an hour instead (teething problems) and hes not eating right, so I've spent the day trying to go him to take his feed and get on with the chores, and I've missed my walk cause he wouldn't take his feed.

And I'm supposed to go grocery shopping today, but can't now as have to take Joey to the doctor cause he has a rash on his neck.

when i was back in florida without my husband and off base here in turkey. i can lose weight no problem. but when im back here and theres never anything to do. i coko and clean and i go to the gym and go walking running play outside, but the thing is i do eat. when im stateside. i dont instead i go hang out with friends, or get tattooed or go dancing and theres never vny food i can have at my parents. so i lose weight then i come home and pack it right back on. its a losing bvttle it seems.

I find it easier to get up and go now that I have my son. We go for walks or I take him swimming... I also have started eating much better because I don't want him to have any junk foods. He gets the occasional treat but other than that we don't bring that kind of thing into our house.
We will see how I feel in a couple weeks though when I have two haha

I lost alot of weight because i was poorly but there are ways around losing weight

Only keep healthy food in the house...That way the whole family eats healthy. Excercise.....what we do is sometimes we put music on and "mad dance" as we call it....burns off energy for all 3 of us!

Go out for walks, the park, in the countryside, take the kids swimming etc...there are lots of options available....just because you don't work, doesn't mean you have to resign to being unable to lose weight.

Bmes? I'm not really sure why I can't sleep, I mean for one my husband works swing shifts so I'm kinda on his schedule except he has absolutely no problems going to sleep. I mean as soon as his head hits the pillow he is out within a minute, I kid you not. I've never seen anything like it. I went to the doctor a year ago about it and he prescribed me Ambien. The first 2 times I took it, it didn't work but then after that it did but made me sleepy the next day too, so I was no good all day and night . I don't really know what it will take to get a good night sleep. I can't remember when I slept all through the night. It is really bad.

I have lost weight. I get on those pill diets, lose the weight, go off the pills then gain it back, however now I am having hormonal problems due to a birth control pill I took over a year ago. My periods are all screwed up, I sometimes go 2 months and don't have one. My doc ran all kinds of tests, premenopause, thyroid, you name it and they all came back fine. She said that it may take me some time to get my body back to normal, whatever that is, lol So just some advice for all you women on birth control, the pills are bad for you, they cause, varicose veins, and the main vein in your leg to be bad, and then you have to have it removed or you could end up with a blood clot that can go to your heart or lungs or your brain. Trust me I know it happened to me. The last BC Pill I was on was seasonal and I gained 45lbs on it. I stay clear of them all now. All I know is that somethings going to have to give sooner or later....I hope!

Hey bmes, long time no hear. I have been busy with the whole holiday thing and my youngest son had a birthday on Easter so it has been quite hectic this month. Hopefully you will get this message. I would love to know the name of that pill you were talking about. I still have the same non sleep problems and would love to be able to take a pill without feeling so tired the next day. I hope your holiday went well. I had lots of family at my house which was nice, but I have to say I am glad its back to normal. Well whatever that is. Yeah it would be nice to fall asleep like my husband does then I wouldn't be in this situation. I have read where lack of sleep adds to weight gain. Don't know how true it is but it does seem accurate. I think in my mind that I can't lose the weight without some diet pill, I mean I'm currently doing weight watchers but have fallen off the wagon, especially at Easter. I feel that with the food I get to consume their is no way I could lose weight. I start exercising but then I am so tired that I don't finish the rest of the week I need energy, and let's face it without sleep I will never have energy. A nice quick fix to my problems would be nice as to anyone else's huh? Anyway that is what is taking place with me lately. How are you?

Name: bmes | Date: Mar 30th, 2008 5:45 AM
hey!!! yeah that med i used to take is called amitriptyline....it is prescribed as an anti-depressant but in much higher dosages....i was only on 10mg...it's basically just enough to calm my body enough to the point where i can fall asleep much easier. it doesn't really make you drowsy....just makes to mellower....cause at the end of the day, even though i'm exhausted, my mind would just wanna go go go...and i'd toss and turn all night and because i'm moving around so much i can't sleep...so i'd take it a couple hours before i go to bed and no problem at all falling asleep, and even if i had to wake up in the middle of the night to feed my son....it was no problem...i'd just get up feed him and fall right back asleep with total ease...it was sooooooo nice...but now i don't have that problem anymore...i only used them for a couple month and then my body seemed to just regulate itself, and i no longer have a need for them...i was just talkin' to my fil and he said he heard somewhere that adults should be getting a MINIMUM of 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep, or you will have problems losing weight...i've been hearing more and more people say the same thing since you mentioned it the first timem, so there must be some truth to it...i'm just plain lazy...lol...i hate excercise....it sucks...i just try and watch what i eat and everything in moderation, and it seems to be working....so yeah...anywyas....holidays were busy here too. kids got spoiled....glad it's all over now..next big ordeal will be a month from now...my daughter's 2nd birthday and then a month after that is my son's first birthday....should be fun... :-)

anyways...bedtime for me...take care and ttyl

Shelli, i completely understand you, i'm a stay at home mom and also trying to lose weight but don't know how exactly, i have a baby boy which is very active and he takes all my energy, by the end of the day i just want to eat chocolate or have a tiramisu or go to sleep...I'm not really happy with my weight but i'm too tired to exercise and sometimes you just don't feel like eating healthy specially when you're stressed or too lazy to cook...its really hard to look after ourselves when we look after children, no time or energy to go for a walk or exercise...
I wish there was an easier way to lose weight...

It can be really hard but, it's totally normal dont worry at all! Just make sure you exercise lots and eat a good diet! When you have the kids at home, play with them lots as just being active helps. All do a dance together or take a walk to the park. You might want to check http://www.bounty.com/ for lots of healthy eating tips ! If you are still feeling really bad check with your GP that everything is ok xxx

Over the last year I have gained about 20 more pds on top of baby weight I never lost. My son is 3 yrs old. I have been keeping off losing the weight long enough. Then I started not having periods. It's been 8ths without one and (No I am not on any BC pills) Went to the doctor; all my lab test came back fine. So in other words I felt like there was no hope. And I have been trying to lose weight for the last week. I'm eating right, and being more active. I've lost a couple pds. I was just wondering is it harder to lose weight if you aren't having periods or what?

Ya I usually struggle with my busy schedule and staying in shape. I am a stay at home mom but I do work from home as well. It's just hard to keep up with the little ones and keep toned:(

I think it's kinda cute that my job (a marketing company) came up with a video which really captures busy people's desire to stay in shape. it's a very tongue-in-cheek humorous vid and had me chuckling AND thinking. http://www.youtube.com/wat

Anyone
else see any funny videos on Youtube or on other sites like this one aimed at busy people?

YYYEEEESSSSS!!! I'ts harder than a b**ch to lose weight being a sahm. All your attention is focused 90% of the time to little ones, plus stress from being the family manager doesn't help any. When I lived by myself, it was SSSSSOOOOO easy to lose weight. I lost 10 pounds per month, and had all the time in the world to worry about myself, so it was no big deal. I've been trying to lose weight since February and have only lost about 16 total. It is now July. You do the math.

Name: Just a Mom HA | Date: Jul 12th, 2009 9:37 PM
I recently lost over 50 pounds and I never could have done it back when I was working. SAHMs do the shopping and the cooking, so we have the most power to make healthy choices.

All I did was change my day time eating to be healthier - mostly veggies, fruit, and few low-cal processed foods. Then I eat a normal dinner with my family. I don't feel hungry and I don't feel deprived and I've had HUGE success.

I've written my whole story with tips for other SAHMs that want to do the same as me on my website: justamomha.com

I hope you'll check it out!
