So I am taking fenugreek and pumping with the hospital grade pump in between feeding and I am not hardly getting anything. Baby refuses bottle even with breastmilk in it. I feel like if shes still hungry after nursing, wouldn't she take the bottle? I am really worried she not getting anything although she has 5-6 wet diapers a day. My LC told me to give it till Monday, if my supply has isn't increased by then they will call my OB about getting the RX thats supposed to help increase supply. They also said to keep her on first side for 15-20 minutes which is impossible, she is done after 8-10 minutes and gets aggravated with me when I keep offering her the same side, I have even tried switching back and forth but she just won't take, when she done, shes done! I am totally freaking out, how long did it take you to increase your supply and were you getting much when you pumped inbetween? ↓

what you are saying sounds just like me, 5 months ago. I tried so hard to feed my girl, but I had the same problem she would be on one side for 5 mins and keep coming of. when I expressed I would less than 20 ml. after her screaming every half hour to hour for a feed. I new somthing was, I went to the gp and she had dropped is size. I then decided to bottle feed. she was 7weeks old. from then on she has be a delite, she has sleeped through the night and always had a full tummy. I dont know if ay of this will help. But just know, do whats right for you and bub, and dont let to many people give you advise, or it will become confussing ↑
some babies eat more effecitly(sp? sorry up late w/ lilltle one) than others. she might be empting you breast in the 8-10 min. that she is on. even if you pump and don't get much the baby can get milk that the pump can't. my son still doesn't like to take the bottle and he is 9 months old. he won't take one from me or even if he knows i'm still in the house. he will take one from my mom, but i have to leave. if you want to her to take a bottle maybe let her father try giving it to her. also try different nipples and bottles. i started my son out on the playtex nurser but ended up using the bottle and nipple that came with my breast pump. so i hope some of this helps and don't give up, i know it can be very frustrating some times. you do have it better than me though i didn't find this website until i was already done with my "rough" spot in nursing. good luck and i hope u stick with it. ↑
Oh its a long story....so skip it...but I have been through this also. Do try the nipple that comes with the pump....usually they are called NUK nipples....could be diffrent these days ... but that is what I did. And baby hungry enough.....she will take it at some point. A starving baby I had...and yours is sort of sounding the same way. I never got more than a quarter of an ounce from myself with a pump. Not sure how old baby is but if you have given her the first two weeks of what you do have....she has gotten the best of the best from you.
Do what you think is right Denise....but maybe its time to go the formula route? After six weeks of hell for me and my daughter...I knew nothing and I assure you the home care nurse was NOT telling me anything ..... I somehow clicked it together one day in the mist of a dither...and asked for a pump. Knew nothing about the contraption....but when I got it together and checked when I felt really full........almost no milk. I bought formula...my child was starving. Thank you God for haveing led me to some moment of awareness in all the mess around me. I still wonder how long they would have left me to just feed away for HOURS on end without....telling me to get her either at least suplimented or just go with the formula.?
In 24 hours her fingers looked swollen kind of and she slept. In 48 they looked bigger yet....in 72 they began to look like normal baby pudge fingers and the screaming stopped she slept and gained weight steady.
Oh...the only thing about taking drugs for milk that bothered me...was the thought about....oh here we go ...thilimide (SP?) in the 60. Not until it was to late for so many did they realize it was a BADDDDD thing. Is there proof that over time...there wont be some nasty side affect? I dont know...but something to consider.
Best wishes

pumping and the herbs don't just work over night. give it a little time. also others on here are trying to tell you that you need to switch to formula. even if you try everything and she isn't gaining you don't have to completly switch to formula. it doesn't have to be one or the other. you can still breastfeed and suppliment with formula. but please do this as a last resort. no one ever said that it would be easy doing the best for our children. it can be hard and this is just one of the many challenges you will have to meet while raising your daughter. just remember that you are doing your best and she will thank you for that later. also don't stress out about this, it will only hurt your supply. if you aren't relaxed when you nurse then your letdown reflex won't work as good and she won't get as much milk. keep her on as long as she will tolerate. the last 5-10 min that they nurse is the hind milk, it is the part of the milk that has most of the fat in it. if she wants off and you don' t think your empty just next time she feeds put her on the same side. if your other side starts to feel too full then pump. hope some of this helps and just try and relax. it will all work itself out in the end, even if you have to suppliment. ↑
thanks Melissa, I am stressing a little and NO WAY, I am not listening to the women who said to give formula, not sure why they are even responding, I clearly said I didn't want to give formula, why in the world would I be doing all this other stuff if I was just going to give up. If my baby was truly starving we wouldn't be going through so many diapers and I really believe if she was, she would take the bottle. As far as taking the medication I would rather have a minimal amount be excreted through my milk for a few days than give her formula for the next six months. My ped. does seems to think that shes not nursing long enough to get the hind milk, but I can't force her to eat. Thank you Melissa you have been very supportive. ↑
your welcom, i had everyone but my mom trying to get me to switch to formula so i know how good it is to hear that someone supports you. i just wanted you to know that your not alone and that you baby won't starve. some babies are just small. just keep an eye on her diapers and how well she is progressing with motor skills. my baby cousin(well he's 3 now) was very small for his age. he is just now in size 2 clothes. so she might just be a little one. ↑
