So I have plans to go out on New Years with a couple friends for some drinks. My daughter will be 5 months old on the 15th and is exclusively breastfed. She absolutely HATES formula! I would like to know if any of you have drank while breastfeeding?? I have a lot of bottles pumped already but I plan on limiting myself to 4 drinks but I am going to pump 24 hours worth of bottles for my daughter. I have never left her yet but my mom is super excited to watch her for me...

So my question is...have any of you drank while breastfeeding (just pumped bottles for you LO's)??

I googled my question and asked my doctor what he thought about it and they both said that as long as I wait 2 hours for every drink starting from the last drink I had...if that makes sense...So if I were to stop drinking at 1am and I had 4 drinks throughout the night then I would have to wait 8 hours before feeding my daughter...

I did not ask this question to be judged so please keep it clean. I just want to know if anyone else thinks this is ok or should I just not drink? I am a single mom, I've only ever left my daughter once for 1 hour with my mom so I would just really like a night to myself where I can just let loose and enjoy the night with my friends!

lol....no judgment here. i've done it. what I did was i pumped enough for my daughter to have through the night. i was told that there's no need to 'pump and dump" unless you're BURSTING!!! lol...but i just made sure there was enough pumped for the evening and through the night and then by the time it was morning, it was ok for her morning feed. the alcohol DOES get into the breastmilk, but it's quite minimal, so i wouldn't worry about it too much!!! have fun!!! :-)

One thing I found that helps with drinking while feeding is to make sure that you still pump at some point you do not want to get engorged and you want to make sure that you are still keeping your milk supply up and ready for use!

LOL bmes I didn't read yours first. When I went out drinking and I didn't pump for about 6 hours and thought I would never drink again because I was so overly full. I wouldn't know how to live with going out and having 4 drinks and then waiting all that time!

I heard that even if you were to just feed them while you were drinking (which I would never do) all it would do is make them drowsy...unless you drank all the time - then it would hurt them. My doctor also said I didnt have to pump and dump because the alcohol leaves the breastmilk just as it would leave your blood so thats cool. Im sooo looking forward to a night out with my girlfriends!!
