If I am concerned about something and tell my doctor about it, and she doesn't see it as a problem, can she choose to NOT refer me to a specialist? or if I just ASK for a referal should she just give it to me regardless?

I am really getting tired of the way Anika is when she's sleeping. the tossing and turning and whining and full on screaming and kicking....every damn day when she wakes from her nap in the afternoon, she does this, and about 3-4 times a week at night. WHY? WHY? WHY?????? Why does she do this? it's truly disturbing to watch her. I keep mentioning it to the doctor and she just doesn't see it as a problem. but she doesn't see what I see!!!!!

huh....well this is interesting....I've been reading tons of stuff on night terrors, and I don't know WHY I never came across this before...but apparently night terrors could be associated with being just overtired!!! HUH!!!!!! well.....then i thought well this is just one site saying this so I googled night terror and overtired, and there were TONS of site saying the same thing....why did I not find this before? is it new? hmmmm.....well she normally has a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon, and then goes to bed at 8pm until 6am......i thought this was enough....but i think i'll try giving her an extra nap. i wonder how well that will go with her. lol.....

Hmmmmm it is concerning that her sleep is so restless. Maybe some sleep apnea or something, and unable to fully rest??? You cannot force your doctor to give a referral. That is why I HATED HMO's with a passion and why it took about 10 years for those idiots to diagnose my dh's epilepsy since he did not have common symptoms however you ALWAYS have the right to request another pediatrician and a second opinion. YOU are the Mom and YOU know best. NEVER let a doctor or anyone tell you you don't.

Try the extra nap and if that doesn't work and it keeps up, you ALWAYS have the right to a second opinion. Always go with your gut.

Tell the Doctor you want a referal, if you can not get one go ask at a walk in clinic.
Good luck!

yeah i think i might. i do really like my doctor. she is really nice. she is just very laid back and calm about everything. it's good in a way, especially when I was in labor!! lol....it was nice to have someone there that was always very calm and cool about things. but with THIS, i think she's being a little TOO laid back. maybe it is just nothing, but if there is something that CAN be done, i want it done you know? well i'm going to try this extra nap thing....then if that doesn't work and my doc STILL won't give me a referral, then I will go to a walk-in...thanks!! :-)

ah Bmes,
Yep try the nap.....and then if it does not work go to the walk in clinic.
My Doctor is very easy going and laid back as well, which is so nice......but yep I can see it being frustrating too,.

Maybe there are tummie problems. Sometimes it's hard for a child to go to sleep and get good sleep with GERD or something of the same nature. If your baby doesn't sleep well it could be a chain reaction. My little one had GERD and we put a pellow under her mattres at one end so she slept at a slight angle with her head higher than her feet, it helped alot. I also played soft music like flutes or piano to keep a soothing mood. Just check to see if it might be something else leading to the problem that you're seeing. You never know.

bmes I had two baby's like this...my youngest, god help us all if he had a slight nap in the car...when we got to our destination, he was like a freeking psycho! Nothing would console him, he would be screaming, kicking, refusing to get up..nothing!! I just let him be, sometimes he will come after me, sometimes he just curled up in a ball and SCREAMED!!...and yup i figured out it was overtiredness. The only thing that worked...he either had a big uninterrupted sleep (2 hours) he is a light sleeper, so everything had to be dead quiet.........or he had no sleep!...both inconvienced me, as tired time either went over the 3pm when others had to be picked up....or he fell asleep on the 5 min trip to pick the kids up.......I was usually in a lose-lose situation :-(

try lying down with her when you think she is about to wake...maybe you being beside her, may help her to wake up in loving arms. Put lex down for his nap when she is about to wake...that way she may get some mummy time to herself?
