Haha ok, this is a question about baby poop. My son is 11 weeks old and is on a soy formula. I was nursing him as well until about 2 days ago. Since he was about 3 weeks old he has only had 1 poop every 2-4 days... I know bf babies can go up to 10 days safely, but is it normal for a formula fed one? I can't find any info on the internet, so I thought I would ask you. He seems fine and doesn't seem to be bothered by it, but when my husband mentioned it to his family they freaked and told us to put syrup in his bottle. I said no way, and they told me if I didn't he would have problems with becoming regular later on... Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing. Thanks!

Hey found this on a web site:

If your baby is a formula-fed baby, he will poop a lot in the beginning too. Formula-fed babies do not have as many bowel movements, generally, as breastfed babies but you can expect four or five poops a day in the first few weeks.

Babies that don’t poop for several days
Once your baby is about one month old, he may start having fewer bowel movements. If your baby is breastfed, he may go several days to a week without having a bowel movement. This is nothing to worry about. Exclusively breastfed babies rarely have problems with constipation. If he goes longer than a week, he seems to be in pain, or if you are concerned, call your pediatrician.

Formula-fed babies poops slow down at about a month as well. However, formula is more likely to cause constipation than breast milk. Most formula fed babies will have about one bowel movement a day. Stools should be soft. If you notice your baby’s stools are firm or hard and pellet-like, he may be constipated. If your baby goes longer than two or three days without a bowel movement and he is formula fed, you should give your pediatrician a call.

Thanks. Do you think that it was maybe because I was nursing as well? Maybe it will pick up now that I have stopped?

i have no clue. I breastfed Anika until she was 4-5 months, then my milk stopped completely cause i got pregnant, and went straight to formula....i never did both at the same time. but once i got her on formula she pooped everyday or every other day. but she's never gone more than 2 days.

Well I am still trying to keep going, but it shoots down his throat too fast, he won't open his mouth wide enough and he can't seem to bring his tongue forward enough, so it's really painful and for the past few days he hasn't wanted it. Maybe I will keep pushing it though. Is your daughters name pronounced A-nee-ka or A-nick-a?

A-nick-a..LOL....have you tried a slower flow nipple? maybe it's too fast for him. is he not pooping maybe cause he's not getting enough?

Haha because they only come in one speed lol. My breast milk is too fast he chokes and sputters. He uses the stage one slow flow nipples for the bottle, but now he prefers that because it is slower.

My daughter is also 11 weeks old and she is a formula fed baby. She has always been a regular pooper.. she usually has about 2 poops every single day. Even when my dd was breast fed (as much as i could) and also on formula she was still a regular pooper. I think if the babies poops are hard and marble like your baby might be having troubles breaking down the iron ni the formula, thus causing a little constipation. If your son is having no troubles and the poop is a normal wet consistancy then hes good. ~Kristin~

So should his poop be runny? It is kind of like brown toothpaste right now... lol.

my baby is 3 weeks old and does the same thing....when we first brought her home she would poo little amounts about 3 or 4 times a day and now its a huge amount like every day or couple days.....i was told theyre o.k. as long as they have plenty of wet diapers and the poo isn't coming out hard (like constipation)....and I have been breastfeeding and formula feeding
