Well, as a Catholic I am supposed to fast tomorrow and Good Friday, and no meat on Fridays. I will stick to those rules and try to find something to do to help deepen my faith. I am also going to start going to a bible study on Wed during Lent that my priest is starting. He is really good with his discussions, always makes me question and Want to read and learn more, so that I think will make me want to read the bible an learn more.

lol you're supposed to give up everything bc thats when christ was alone in the desert and tempted by the devil. now adays most people give up just liek chocolate, meat, one of their favorties though. and the orthodox give up meat and dairy since they're a little more strict about it i guess. but i was always raised to give up everything for the most part.

Courtney, surely you're not planning on fasting completely. The Catholic church does not expect that of you. Just to give up things you like like chocolate, cigarettes, sweets, alcohol ... It's a good way of cutting out an unhealthy habit ... as well as all the religious benefits

It would be unhealthy to give up everything for a month ... you need to eat mate ...

When I was little I was raised Russian Orthodox Catholic. We were not to eat meat on ANY Friday EVER!! So just during lent is a piece of cake!! As it is I do want to make a little offering, not just as a token, but something to really deepen my faith and understanding, hence the bible study group.

i could give up meat. i don't eat much of it anymore anyways. but I couldn't NOT eat at all. I thought during Lent you could eat one meal a day. or nowadays you just choose to give up a vice?

michele, my hubby's family are Dukhobours, and for years they didn't eat any meat EVER....they just ate what they grew on their land. but now, hubby's baba will once in a while cook a turkey or chicken if there's a bunch of company coming. but for the most part they still don't eat meat. i actually have a dukhobour cookbook. really tasty vegetarian russian food.
