First of all...good morning everyone!! LOL....ok so here's my problem. I have notcied lately that Anika thrashes around LIKE CRAZY when she's sleeping. I'm not talking like the usual tossing and turning. She's all out flailing!!! leg are kicking arms swinging around body rolling back and forth, head turning in all directions, and smashing into to sides of the crib. It looks like a slient full on temper tantrum. It looks scary...She won't wake up when she hits the sides of the crib unless she hits her head, which is maybe once or twice a night. But i'm waking up about every 30 minutes cause all you hear is this BANG, BANG, BANG!!!! so naturally you're freak and think what the hell!!!!! she always wakes up with bruises on her face and head from hitting the sides so hard. She's at the age already where she's pulling herself up and standing, so I can't have bumper pads, cause they can use em as leverage to climb out of the crib, and plus their not recommended anyways cause of SIDS obviously....so what i'm wondering, is if anyone else has gone through this, and what they did. And also, is there a reason why she's so restless and out of control? this has been happening now for about a month, but it seems to be getting worse night after night. it just started out as little tossing and turning and now she's doing this!!! what do I do????

yeah....bumper pads are not recommended anymore, because it doesn't give the baby proper air flow or something....if you go to the SIDS foundation website, you can read all the stuff they say to try and avoid! I personally take it really seriously, but lots of people still use em., They've come out with these mesh ones now to give them proper circulation, and I had those...but like i said.. she stands now so.....

and the mesh ones aren't really padded

Have you tried her in it for say a couple of weeks she will take a while to get used to it.
Does she have any teddies in her crib that you could put in there for her?

not a couple weeks no....but we have gone on trips with her and she won't go to sleep in it...just sits there and plays...lol...she thinks play pen equals play!!! lol....so when we go places, she usually has to sleep with us...which she doesn't like to do either!! but she will eventually. teddies? again..won't do it, cause of the risk of SIDS....lol...i think I might have to just let her thrash!! :-(

Can you not wrap something aroung the crib bars so it doesn't hurt as much.
The only other thing is let her carry on she will stop in the end. Fingers crossed.lol.

brandiss, I would never put my child in a bassinet for that reason exactly. Anika always slept in her crib right from day one. I'm not saying people shouldn't use bassinets, but me personally, i am totally SIDS paranoid. To me that would be the worst thing EVER and I wouldn't be able to live with myself, if I knew I didn't do everything in my power to prevent it. Everything that the SIDS foundation recommends, I follow. plain and simple. They don't mention anything about bassinets, but logically to me it would be like putting bumper pads in a crib, so i just won't use em. :-)

I personally used a bassinet with my oldest until she was 3 weeks and she started to move in the night and was kicking the sides at night and waking her self up.

my twins liked to sleep top to toe when they were in their twin cot....i watched miracles in the womb the other day... it was a programme showing 4d and cgi images of multiples in the womb...and they said that twins etc pick up certain things in the womb and play games that carry on into later life...
there was a set of boys who kept putting their cheecks together through the membrane stuff and now they are 2 or 3 they still hide one each side of a curtain touching cheeks!

In my womb Daisy kept touching Poppy's face with her feet....and well, after watching that, I kind of thing thats why they liked to sleep top and tail!

Why don't you try swaddling her? I went to wal mart and got 44" x 44" squares of flannelette and I swaddle Kaden every night. I think it helps them sleep way better and you can do it for as long as they will have it...you just don't want to do it all the time night and day for a baby over 3 months as it can interfere with growth. Good Luck.

wow i didnt know it could interefere with their growth...although it makes sense as they grow so quickly the slightest little thing...lol

hi bmes
all my kids slept in a travel cot (the largest) with a mattress specially made for them. the air circulates great...the sides are soft...its larger (all mine were in their until around two) and the bonus ....its alot more difficult to get out of!!!!
if she doesnt sleep in it...i would put some of her favourite toys in their UNTIL she went to sleep and then take them all out.
As for WHY she sleeps like she does...i would get her checked out if possible....i had one baby who grinds his teeth and wakes EVERYONE else up...except himself!!!, he has become better now that hes older and after trying everything under the sun. But i dont think because he didnt sleep contently...he became a grump bum during the day, and this has turned into habit...also he has the attention span of a hummingbird in flight!!....IMHO...i relate alot of these habits to not getting a proper sleep
good luck :-)
