if you don't know when your period is due because you have irregular cycles, then you can't know for sure when you ovulate.

ovulation occurs about 14 days BEFORE your period is due, not 14 days after your period starts (except if you have a consistant 28 day cycle)

best thing to do is to start charting your cycles and learning certain things about how your body changes during ovulation, like your cervical muscous, basal body temp...things like that. when you figure these things out it'll be easier for you to know when your period is supposed to come.

if you don't have a 28 day cycle you can't just count 14 days after day 1 of your cycle and that's when you ovulate. that won't work for you.

when ur period is irregular, you really dont know when u ovulate...this happened with both my pregnancies...i found out way later because i never knew when to expect my period, therefore didnt know if i had missed it or not. Sometimes i'd get it every month, sometimes 3 months would go by and no period...so if ur in the same situation, just give it another 2 weeks or so and test again. Maybe it's still too soon

I am irregular myself and when I was ttcing ith my daughter what I did was chart my daily tempatures. After about 3 months (should you not find out that your pregnant first) you can get an idea as to when you ovulate or even if you are. Unfortunately with your period being irregular it hard to say when you ovulated exactly which make it difficult to know exactly when to test. You can also pick up ovulation test strips which are also suppose to let you know when you are ovulating. However I don't like them because last month they told me that I ovulated when I know I wasn't but also told me that I was ovulating when I suspected I might have been.

You might be testing to soon or you might not be pregnant. Again it's hard to be sure since it sound like you are basing ovulation on a 28 day cycle with day 14 being your ovulation day. Try charting if your not pregnant this month. It really does help. Infact I found out that I ovulated between day 18 and 22 of my cycle.
