I have a question: My youngest is 9 yrs old . Since labor hours decrease with your second and are usually around the same or less with the 3rd. Is that true when you have a large gap? I have been told both 1) that I will most likely have a labor like my first 12hr, since everything has had a chance to 'firm' up. ( I think not!) ;0) The other doctor said nah once your 'opened' so to speak it will most likely go like your second. Anyone have this type of gap? How did you labor compare? Thanks

My first labor 24 hours
second 12 hours then c-section
five years later vbac 24 hours
three years later c-section after 10 hours
everyone is different you really can't tell. Some people are in labor for days and other deliever in a couple of hours even on thier first babies.

Linda,
everyone is different.
It is true that usually the first is the longest, more difficult, etc, and the ones after tend to be easier. But there are so many other things too that come into play, how active were you, what is your health, the baby plays a part in it also, so there is no way really to get a good prediction. I think hoping for the best is the easiest, do what good prep youcan, and when it comes it comes, and there really isn't anything you can do about it then, lol.

As for me:
My first: Labor was 2 hours
my second 17 months later: Labor was 1 hour
My next 16 years later: Labor was 3 hours

Compare that with sonia's you can see how different every pregnancy is.
I recommend walking a lot, it has been said to aid in labor duration.

Great question, my son is also 9 and im on my second pregnancy and if what your saying is true, shoot me now! I had many complications with my sons birth, first i had toxemia where you blow up like a balloon and it hurts to move, in the beginning of my labor, my water broke, which is rare so I had to go to the hospital right away. My labor lasted 30 hours and I was pushing for 3 after that. I did have an epidural but I didnt know when to push. My pushing was guided. Well after that horror story I dont want to go through that again. Ive read that if your labor lasts longer than 24 hours, they will give you a c-section. Boy i wish I had one then. Anyway I know how you feel, Im hoping since this is my second it will be better and also this time I will take birth classes and breast feeding classes, that way im not so ignorant when it comes down to it. So how far along are you? im on my 23rd week.
