I had a question...does anyone know if mosquito repellent is safe for a 5 month old? If so is there a certain brand?

The only thing that I found on the internet was not to apply any to a child under two months of age but to use caution when using a repellent that contains deet. The article said that using DEET with children between the ages of 6 months and 2 years can be tricky and it's pretty much up to the parent if they want to use the repellent. I actually purchased repellent that also contains sunscreen SPF30 thru avon which is deet free and Peditrician recommended. It's $10 a bottle and as of right now they are running a special where you buy one and get the second free.

My son actually have ultra-sensative skin so where ever we go so does the Benadryl. I ended up purchased repellent/sunscreen through avon because we were going camping when my son was 4 months. We had no problems. Infact he's now 2 years old and I still use it, the only thing that changed is that we now get the disappearing color repellent/sunscreen (the bad thing about this is that is actually stains the bottom of you hands blue, but my son loves it so I get it for him).

i talked to my doc about this and she said that using the combo sunscreen and bug repelent wasn't a good idea. her main reason was because u need to apply the sunscreen more often and u only need to apply the bug repelent once. she was worried about my son getting too much of the bug replenet. just thought i'd let u guys know. i thought that the combo ideas was good until i talked to her and now i think that it makes sense. don't want to overdose our babies!

It all depends. I wasn't using the repellent/suncreen combo for the purpose of the sunscreen. I purchase it for the bug repellent. The problem is that most repellents now contain DEET and it's extremely hard to find ones that don't.

ok, I'm very new here. but I have a small retail store and this is my expertise! Definately anything for our children that is natural (especially mosquito repellent) is Burt's Bees. its 99% natural, it is actually lemongrass oil. I tell all of the guests in my store to pump it onto your hands, rub into skin, then whatever is left on your hands, lightly rub onto your clothes because it is an oil. By far this is the best thing in the world!!!! Look at their website:www.burtsbees.com you can find their product almost anywhere nowadays. By the way, where has this website been all my life? I'm so happy I found you. Too busy for the social life of my children's friends moms. And we just moved here, seems that if you didn't grow up here, you don't fit in. Thanks for being here! I might actually have to purchase some of the repellent. I purchase the avon repellent/Sunscreen because it was hard to find anything that contain DEET. Although my son is now 2 and it's says it is somehwhat safe to use DEET my son has such sensitive skin that he breaks out with practically everything. I tried regular repellent and wouldn't you believe it, HIVES.
