18 weeks and more

I’ve finally made it to 18 weeks, which is considered the first week in the fifth month span. The baby can finally start to hear louder noises and is soothed when I, or really anyone, rubs on my stomach. Nothing has really changed since I hit the second trimester. The doctor said that this is when expectant mothers feel their best, and really, I do. I feel pretty good most days. There are a few ruff days in there, but nothing too bad as long as I drink a glass of milk each morning. I tried the bread in the morning as well as the crackers, but nothing satisfies me as much as a glass of milk which is nice because it isn’t as fattening. The one thing that did begin kind of recently is this god awful cramping in my lower abdomen when I first lay down, sit down, stand up, or really any change of position. I was reading about this and it is because my muscles are begining to loosen and stretch in preparation for childbirth. At this point, the book says that all the muscle aches that I have are also for that same reason... my tendons are loosening and separating in preparation for childbirth. This childbirth thing definitely isn’t a last minute thing! :)

Oh and it is Luke’s 26 birthday this weekend!! 11-15-09! We are also celebrating our dog Skeeter’s birthday with Luke’s because we really don’t know when it is, but know that it is around Luke’s birthday. Our other dog, D’s birthday, we celebrate on the day of the super bowl, because again, we don’t know when his birthday is, just that it was around that date.

Our Second and Third doctor appointments

Our second doctor appointment on 10-6-09 and third doctor appointment on 11-5-09 were just simple check-ups, making sure everything is going well with mommy and baby. Each visit I got to hear the amazing sound of my little one’s heart beat. Each time it was as wonderful as possible. The Second visit the baby’s heartbeat was 158 and the third visit, the baby’s heart beat was 153. Vanessa, our doctor, said that a heartbeat anywhere from 120-160 is fantastic. The second doctor visit was fairly non-eventful. The third doctor visit was a little more exciting because I had my sister, Carissa, with me. She got to hear her little niece or nephew’s heartbeat for the first time. Also, we found out that the baby is 18 cm. long. I was 17.1 weeks along at this point and the baby is supposed to be how ever many weeks along you are in centimeters (ex: 17 weeks = 17 centimeters). Luke is really excited that the baby is +1 centimeters long at this point, because as my mother-in-laws says, "Clum’s have 10 lb babies." My Brother, sister and I were all 6 lb babies, but Luke was a 9 lb baby and his younger brother Lason was a 13 lb baby (they had to go in after him!) so I guess my odds are pretty even on how big the baby is going to be. But as long as it is healthy, I will be happy!
