We learned the same thing from our daughter's school. I don't think that giving drugs to children is because their parent's are lazy. I think that it is because they can't afford the best schools. I was taught excellent morals when I was growing up. Therefore, I married well We were able to afford an excellent private school that taught us to do the same thing that you did with your daughter.

We put Cadee in private school too. They have the resources to do more. Actually, I first hear about giving her good food, and taking her off drugs from my guardian. He did the same thing with me. Actually, it is what they used to do in many places before drugs. For Cadee, her food allergy is any ose sugar especially high fructose sugar. The food allergy can differ with different children. If she has any ose sugar, she displays all of the adhd behavioral problems. Private school was important. They would have done the same thing if I hadn't done it first. They also test for vitamin deficiencies, and that helped Cadee.

We found that our son had a food allergy rather than ADHD. Thank you for pointing us in the right direction. We removed the drugs which was difficult because of the withdrawl symptoms. Then we started him on the food that you told about. We added different foods until we found out the foods that he is allergic too.

My daughter's school recommended the same things that you said. She goes to a 12,000 dollar per year private school. She is in the first grade. Before she started our doctor placed her on retalin. The most difficult part of her recovery from ADHD was withdrawl from retalin. The withdrawl symtoms give the appearance of more extensive ADHD behavior, and more need for the drug. We stayed with the school's evaluation and recommendations. She is not taking any drugs, and we extensively changed her diet. She is a very normal first grader.

I did it years ago. My husband and I are also well heeled. It is interesting that for economically advantaged adhd symptoms are food allegies, and for the disadvantaged there are drugs. I don't know why this happens. I know some people whose children have food allergies, and nobody in our neighborhood or in the private school are on any drugs.

I have to admit that I was very nervous about trying what you said. I did it and it turned my monster into an angel !!! She was much worse during the drug withdrawl period and I was tempted to give her more drugs. You should have told people that other foods can cause ADHD, not just the food that caused it in your child. The food that you recommended is packed with vitamins, and we used it. It worked. When we added other food we found that she was not just allegic to high frutose sugar or anything beginning and ending with the letters ose. She was allergic to other foods as well

Dear Michele

I was just wondering if you had any trouble getting Cadee to eat the fruits and veggies?

Cadee has always loved fruits and veggies. They were originally presented to her as pretty colors. She likes tomatoes because she like to eat the red ones.

That is a good question. I started thinking about why she likes them. Much of the reason is that we don't ask her what she would like for meals. She comes in after playing or comes downstairs for breakfast and asks what we are having. I think that she likes the idea of being surprized. She does make requests at some restaurants, and we usually allow her request. Another reason is the parents of her friends who have grapes (the neighborhood favorite) and other fruits for snacks. This month we have fall festival which distributes candy from car trunks at our church. Cadee participates, and we have candy at home for her. She trades the candy from fall festival for candy that she can have. Cadee can eat cane sugar in fact we put in on her fruit in the morning. She becomes adhd if she eats corn sugar, high fructose sugar, or anything with the letters ose. She does eat meat or fish at dinner with two vegatables. Fruits for snacks are normally the only snacks available in the neighborhood. The kids are used to it and like it.

I forgot to tell you that different children have different food allergies. One child in our neighborhood becomes adhd if he eats chocolate. Cadee becomes adhd if she eats anything with the letters ose, for example, high fructose corn sugar.

I am simply sharing my experiences with Cadee. Eating good food, and food allergies has been passed down in my family for generations long before adhd. Cadee's adhd diagnosis was made by a social worker at Cadee's summer day care, and confirmed by doctor. We gave her retalin for a year and a half. When she entered the first grade at an expensive private school (12,000 per year), we decided to take her off drugs and try food to cure adhd. It was difficult because more extensive adhd symptoms is part to the drug withdrawl from retalin. I got together with my family for advice. Cadee is fine now unless she has anything with the letters ose. She becomes very adhd if she drinks, for example, high fructose corn sugar. I was encouraged by the fact none of the children in the private school had adhd, however, there were several who have food allergies.

The same thing happened to me. I was diagnosed as having adhd. I went to a boarding school. They told my mother about food alergies. I am 32 and eternally grateful to my mom. Her decision with help from my boarding school cause me to have a much better life.

I am raising my 6 year old grandson. I'm almost certain his teacher is about to ask me to have him tested for ADHD. And I'm sure he has it. His mother did meth while she was pregnant. I'm sure that this is just one obstacle that he will be faced with.

I have spent a small fortune for books on ADHD. I am a naturalist and I'm convinced that there is a cure for this. I am waiting on the Feingold Diet to be delivered to me and today......I found this site! :)

Michelle.....this diet that you have Cadee on sounds wonderful. I am going to implement it Saturday morning! I am concerned though because I have a finicky eater on my hands. He's hungry all of the time but only likes the junk stuff....pizza, spaghetti O's, sweet cereal....you know the list. I hope I can convince him to eat what I give him without too much trouble.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to change a 6 year olds diet??

Michelle....congratulations on your success and thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will keep ya'll posted of my own success! :)

Thank you for your kind words, Joni. If you only allow him to have good food, he will become hungry enough to eat it.

I would like to suggest a book for you. It is Breaking Night by Liz Murray. Sometimes children overcome obsticles. She was born in a drug infested environment, lived homeless in New York, and went to Harvard.

With you for his grandmother, and good food rather than drugs, he has a great chance to grow up very well.

I am sorry that it took so long to respond to you. Do you still come here?

Ok, this all sounds wonderful...but my son cannot have fruit very often because it gives him diahrrea really bad. (Acidy foods) He used to love tomatoes and spaghetti...can't do those any more either. And secondly, he has decided recently that he is refusing to eat ALL vegetables. He's become a meat and starches kid. How could I make this work for him?
