I think my 6 year old may have ADHD! I have a younger brother (hes 20) and he was diagnosed with ADHD when he was about 5.....so my mom swears my son may have it since she went through it already.
Everyday it seems like I want to rip my hair out, scream, or put my head through the wall...LOL! I have to constantly put my son in time out because he just doesnt listen.....I could scold him for something and 2 minutes later hes right back at it. He also runs around here from the bedroom to the living room, jumping off and on the furniture, constantly making noises and it drives me nuts. I also have a 4 month old and I just feel so drained by the end of the day. (I'm a SAHM and my DH works 12 hour days). I have just sat back and watched him and I kid you not he will just run around in circles until one of us yells at him to stop!! He stays up until 1 am most nights eventhough he gets up about 9am....I dont know how the heck he can do this...lol. Has anyone else gone through this with there kids and do any of you think I need to have him tested for ADHD? Thank you for any help and advice you have!!!!

Hi Savannah I hear ya girl. I know exactly what you are going through. Like you I parent alone for the most part as my hubby works out of province. When he is home it is often worse. My Son (6yrs.) was displaying the same behaviours as your son, so I like you suspected the ADHD as it runs it our family. I kept telling myself that he would outgrow it as his older brother (9yrs) was very active in his preschool yrs as well, and he out grew it. Well when Clay started Kindergarten last fall and the school and the bus driver were calling me all the time I decided to shadow Clay in the classroom for a day and watch him with other children his age. I was shocked!! My kid was totally out of control in the classroom, he could not stay in his desk, his arms were flapping his toes were tapping, he was a bully on the playground, he was loud, disruptive, and literally rolling around the floor during story hour. That was a eye opener. His teacher was awesome, together we first had him evaluated through school then through their referel we went further to Child and youth Psyc. Well in at the end of June he was diagnosed ADHD and we began meds the first week of July. We have experienced side effects however I have seen good changes as well. I am eager for school to start and see if they notice a diff. as I did not tell them I medicated him. I am here if you need to chat.

OMG, that sounds just like my son!!! I was called into school to meet with his teacher and she told me at story time he always made his way to the back of the room to spin on his head while the rest of the class was listening...LOL!! She also said he would just run through crowds of kids and whenever he would be asked to do something he would just say.....ehh I dont feel like it! Knowing dang well he could do it!! But on the other hand she said he was a very happy kid and when he would do something wrong he would always apologize for it! He just has an impulse issue....like slapping kids with towels in the restroom!!!

We are now in a different state and he will be going to a different school so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what they say...lol!

Hello...Yes, definitely get him tested starting with school. It is not fair what you or he is going through. I'm surprised there has not been enough evidence at school yet for them to have requested testing.
