I have one son who has ADHD. I am planning on having another child, but I am worried that maybe the ADHD is hereditary. It does seem to run in the family.

Yes there is evidence that it runs in families. Everychild is diffrent and every child will have issuse of one kind or anouer even if ADHD or ADD is not one of them!

I think it's hereditary. My 10 yr old son, his fraternal uncle (1 of 3 kids), and his fraternal grandfather all seem ADHD.
However, not all kids in the family will necessarily turn out ADHD.

I have a 12 year old daughter that does not have adhd or add, but my 11 year old son has adhd. I have done some research on this, and adhd is hereditary. But just because one of your children have it doesn't mean all of your children will have it.

I was always doing the wrong things as a small girl, now that I am a mother to an 81/2 year old boy who is going through similar signs. I now know that he has ADHD just like I had. Its strange how it takes a child to sometimes show whats been wrong with an adult throughout our lives.

I would love to know the answer to this too. I look back at my chilhood and feel that there are many similarities between my eldest daughters behaviour who has adhd and mine at her age, but i see similar patterens emerging in my younger daughter, i also have a two year old daughter. im terified that we all have it but feel stupid and scared to approach the doctor about theses concerns.

My husband has ADHD. Both of his brothers have ADHD. HIs father and grandfather also had the same symptoms growing up. My husband and I have 3 children. My 5 year old son has ADHD. So far, my daughters aren't showing any signs of it. I was told by a friend of mine that ADHD has a higher chance of being hereditary with children who are the same sex as the parent who has ADHD. There is still a chance, a bit smaller of a chance that a child of the opposite sex will have it. I hope this helps you out. Either way, children are truly blessings. We are not given any more than we can handle. At least that is what I believe. I think that is why I was blessed with my son. I am strong enough to handle the situation. Beleive me, we have had some times when I thought I would go crazy, but my son is doing much better now. And, we got through those times. He started Adderrall about 2 months ago and he has told me that the medicaine makes his brain work better. He is still the happy, talkative child that he always was. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have three children oldest has adhd 7yr my 5yr old dosen't 2yr old maybe but not as serve. My husband has adhd so from what I hear It could be a gene that is passed on but not every child will have it. It's kind of like all 5 chidren will not have blue eyes but they come from the same parents.

Well both myself and my husband have adhd and so does my 10 year old son, but I have a 9 year and 5 year old girls and they don't have it. So the only one out of my kids that have it is the oldest. Have you asked your doctor about if it is hereditary??
