i have a 6 year old with adhd, she is on medication i had the same concerns and worries as you, i dont know anyone else with an adhd child, and it can feel very lonely and you can become very isolated, what i did with the med is gave it to my daughter with a bit of yogurt, some days she would take it fine other days it was a bit of a battle, but when she did take the med i gave her lots of praise and rewarded her, she has now been on her med for nearly three months, and takes it fine, i feel the med is helping her a lot especially with her work at school, her reading is coming along,( although i try to help her a lot at home as much as i can) Even though she is on her med she still gets her bad days, but nothing like she was before, all i can say brandy your worries were my worries 3 months ago, keep giving her the med, talk to her let her know its going to help her, praise her, reward her, try not to show her you are worried or she will pick up on your anxiety and not take it. you are not alone, i tryed to e mail u, IS that your right e mail addresss, i would really like to talk you sound like a great mom, leave me your right mail address and i will contact you from jenny

We would mix it in plain yogurt..it slides down easier and they don't chew yogurt.

Hi! My son was just put on Adderall XR too. I've been putting the capsule into a yogurt but its been kind of hard because my son notices the granular texture. My doctor said to put the capsule into applesauce, yogurt or pudding. Hope this helps.

When I was younger had to learn how to take a pill my mother bought me a bag of plain m&m's and i practiced swallowing those whole. by the time i finished the bag i had no problem with it. this also works well because your kind of taking the pressure out of them learning to do it and makes it some what enjoyable. I recently did this with my 6 year old daughter when she began taking adhd meds

I'm not sure if my 5 yr old daughter has ADHD but I think she has it. My daughter is having a hard time in preschool. She hit's her friends, teases them, she's unable to sit while circle time, doesn't follow directions when told to do something. She's rough with her cousins which are smaller then her. At home she is about the same. She does have her good moments that she is fine but the majority of the time she's driving me crazy. I don't know what to do? Please an advice?

Hang in there. My son is now 9, but we started him on medication when he was 6 and had similar problems. He also started on capsules. He now takes Vyvanse - which we are very happy with. We changed meds and dosages more than once to find the right fit. Also, we needed to find a way, better than mixing the capsules in something, for him to take it. He practiced swallowing tic-tacs with the juice of his choice. He liked it better than water. After he had it down pat and started swallowing the pill with the juice, we had him drink a little water to make sure it dissolved well. It probably didn't matter, but I felt better. I hope this helps. It worked with our son. :)
