My son is now 8, and he was diagnosed at the age of 5 of having ADHD. I just recently read an artical on kids that have ADHD. If they are having trouble with sleep then it is likley that that is the cause. I am taking my son in to our family doctor, and see if we can get a referal to a sleep doctor. You might try that first. Some doctors jump to conclusions, and even teachers because they are not willing to deal with it. So they have to blame it on something, and thats what happened to me. They were either blaming me or ADHD.

Our son was diagnosed at the age of 4 with the Connors Rating Scale. You do it at the school, home and bring it back to the doctor's office. It is about 4 sheets of very easy multiple choice questions. Our son is 8 now and doing well on meds. His math exceeds but his reading level is the lowest in the 2nd grade.

i would definitely recommend you get him evaluated for ADHD - most pediatricians are reluctant to make the dx or even start meds. Your little one sounds like mine when he was that age. He was dxed and put on meds at the age of 3. We also tested his hearing, and eyes and had him work with ST and OT. He turned from a miserable child to a very happy child. It was truly a blessing.l He's now 12 and we're facing new trials, but he went many years after that dx as a happier child. Please email me if you need anything or have any questions. Debbie, if your pediatrician won't listen, bringn him to a pediatric psychiatrist. There are many test to dx and many txs - treatments to help. Susan

Hi nicly - if you are concerned about add - talk to your doctor and ask for a referral to someone who has lots of experience with add in preschoolers - they can be a tough gourp to diagnose and treat but most can do very well. Also start learning about add, management and medication - a great place to start is "Pay Attetnion" by Craig Liden, M.D. (translationspress.com) its an easy to read book in a question and answer format - it has a nice section on the signs in preschoolers and a good section on medication and behavior management.

Hi, I know it is hard. You need to get your son assessed by a professional. Find someone who is really good, make some calls in your area and get your family doctor to refer you.
Best of Luck
