My son is will be 4 in a couple of weeks. Since he was 18 months, he has been asked to leave 3 day cares for not listening, being disrubtive, and being mean. I have had every test done on him and it looks as though he is ADHD. He was taking Tenex for 2 months but it makes him so mean but did control his hyperactivity. Now the doctor wants to put him on Dexedrin SR. What do we do? Is he too young for this medicine? But we have to put him on something. Our family life is very stressful because of him.

Yes I do and posted an article today if you would like to check it out. My son's ped. referred him to a pedatric psychologist and that's where today he was diagnosed. She watched him play and I filled out about 25 pages of questions and also I took a letter from his daycare on his behavior and then a list of how he was at home. Hope this helps because I know how you feel!

I was adhd and took ritalin. there are many new drugs to help this. i dealt with this problem too. my son was 5. i put him on concerta, with hesitation, and am pleased with results. this is misdiagnosed many times, so get a few opinions. you need a child psychologist

One thing they had me try was giving my son as much mountion dew as possible in the shortest time. If He calmed down then that was one sign that he was. I told them he gets it before bed or tea because it seemed to calm him down. The best way is to call the childrens hospital near you and have him tested.

Hey I have a 4 yr old as well, and I was told to have him tested to see if he has ADHD. I think he may only b/c his biological father does and his uncle from his dads side as well. But then again, how can it be told weather your child has adhd or is just being defiant? My son CAN be a good kid. But for 98% of the time he decides he wants to misbehave and not follow the rules. I swear he LOVES to be punised. I am torn if I should put him on meds if he is diagnosed with ADHD. I ned him to be calmer at home but then again i hear it messes with their mind. Like if it doesnt work and you decide to take them off, you cant just take them off. There is a process. And that they will be "addicted" and think if they are not taking meds then thay cant be ok. Good luck hun and if anything works out for your case, please send me any info that may help me out as well. [email protected]

hei girl,....Gumball here,...lol,.... i just submitted my own advice "to med. or not to med." give it a good read girl,....i hope theres some advice there for u that u can use. I forgot to inform that adhd is 80% genetic,....that info i got from the professor himself at the Bergen univerity hospital.in Norway,. so i take his word for it...lol,... since you mentioned that dad has adhd. I chose not to put my son on meds. and im glad i didnt. the DR. is NOT allowed to diagnose adhd here in Norway,...the psychologists do, and Norway is 1 of the countries where diagnosage of a disorder is taken very seriously and can take up to months of analising b4 given a proper and accurate diagnosage. so if u want to drop me a line,....it would b great! hope to hear from u,.....Gumball
