my son is 6 and has never actually been tested for adhd, but he has all the symptoms. his dr put him on focalin in pre-school at the teachers urging. however this summer we took him off of it and he has done quit well. that is up until school started back and i knew that was gonna be a problem. i have started him on something pedi-active a natural supplement. im not putting him back on the meds, but i cant seem to find anyone to help in area. im running out of options and looking for help or ideas on where to go now.

Is there a specific reason you don't want him on meds? My son is also 6 and has shown signs of ADHD since he was about 3 (when he started pre-school) I didn't want to put my son on meds at first either but I didn't have to deal with him while he was at school, by that I mean trying to get 20 kids to do the same thing while one is acting up and getting the others to join, if you start thinkin about it that way it helps and it helped my son A LOT in school, he now likes going unlike before because he was on constant disipline for misbehaving. getting him diagnosed was the best thing possible and he is doing much better because of it. there are a lot of different meds out there for him to try, if you didn't like the first kind he was on. I would talk to your Dr about your concerns and go from there. Good luck

You should consider talking to your pediatrician about a child psychologist. I didn't put my son on meds until he was 8. I used other alternatives until I was absolutely sure I wanted him on meds. I did a lot of research! But the first place to start is the dr. They will point you in the right direction.

you might be able to speak to a specialist in adhd department and ask for other options instead of medicine, councelors also help
