I have a million question, and not sure where to start. My son was recently diagnosed with "autism". I will be working with a case worker, and local agencies to figure out how severe, how to help him, etc. I'm wondering - do children who are slightly autistic grow up to lead normal lives?

Hello Anna, My 2 1/2 year old son was also recently diagnosed with showing signs of Autism. That was about 1 month ago. I have asked, and asked that question all over the web a million times and the same answer I get is, "it depends on the help you get your child, it depends on the love you give your child". Please contact me and we can talk some more. Talking to peopel with experience is the best thing you can do. Or at lease it was for me. [email protected]

Hi Anna! Do lots of research and read, read, read! I started raising my grandson as soon as he was released from the hospital after his birth(he weighed 2 1/2 lbs. at birth). Ben had several health issues but he amazed us all and came through. I was(and still am) a single mom and I thought it would be smooth sailing from then on for me and Ben, until he was diagnosed with autism at two years old. I then started reading and researching and it has helped alot.We are going through a bit of a rough patch right now,Ben is non-verbal, but I know it always gets better. I cannot imagine my life without Ben, in fact I adopted him a little over two years ago. So, Anna, always follow your heart and your instinct and you and your son will be just fine.

Yes they can grow up to have very fulfilling lives. There are famous people like Temple Grandin, Donna Williams and Wendy Lawson. You can find them on the internet if you do a search and they have written books. Im not saying their lives have been easy they have had to battle to become the people that they are. Hope this answers your question. They did thisat a time when there was very little intervention and two of these ladies were misdiagnosed for years.
