When did your child stop running away, ahhhh it drives me nuts. I have to have eyes in the back of my head to watch both of my boys. I tried a harness but the hated it and just sat on the ground, I didn't like it anyway felt like I was walking a dog. So anyone got tips on how to stop them running or what age they stop running away.

My son still has to be in a stoller at three and a half with his three younger sisters because i have too many children to watch him when we are out. I have a four seated stroller which i had to spend a lot of money on because i was worried about his safety and running away. i actually still have to restrain him in the seat with the harnesses that barely fit him because he will climb out of the stroller and run away. Sometimes i try to give him a moment of freedom and let him walk like if we are at the mall or something but then he will follow me for a couple of steps and then he will refuse to walk any further. Once his feet are planted he will not budge and this is almost as difficult to deal with as the running away because then i have to physically force him to sit back in the stroller in front of a live audience at the mall. I don't know how old your son is but i know there is nothing wrong with keeping an autistic child in a stroller until he is old enough to walk responsible which will take longer then a typical child.

P.S. I did not like the harnes either because when he decided to take off the harnes would snap tightly between us and jerk him back and land on his butt so i would end up having to run behind him until i could convince him to stop running, and then he would turn it into a game!!!
