Hi, I was wondering if anyone has heard the information linking ultrasounds to autism in rats? I have a 2 and a half year old son who is soon to be evaluated for autism, which we are pretty sure he has a mild form of. I had four ultrasounds while I was pregnant, for no apparent reason (other than the hospital wanting to make more money). I had a perfectly smooth preganancy, but thinking they were safe, not really being given any choice, and wanting to see my little guy again, I faithfully went to each appointment. I know the medical community would never come out and say ultrasounds cause autism, but I'm just wondering if any one else has a similar situation as I do. Also, I have a huge family, and there is one second cousin on my side of the family with autism. Other than that, no mental disabilities or autism in either my husband's family or mine. If anyone has any thoughts, please share!

Hi KellyMarie. I am in the same situation as you. I also had many ultrasounds during my pregnancy; however, mine did not go so smooth. I also have a 2 1/2 year old that is in the process of getting tested. Some days I feel sure that there is something wrong and then some days I feel like he is just different. We do not have any family history of any mental disabilities in our family either. I am trying to learn more about other families and thier personal experiences with their children. Could you tell me more about your son so that I can see if I relate? Thanks!!

Hey, I hope you still check this page. I haven't been on in awhile, because we were told our son probably did not have autism, and have been trying to get his eval done. We finally made it yesterday, and the diagnoses is PDD - NOS, which is on the autism spectrum. I would love to chat about our kids. My email is [email protected]

Hey Kelly Marie. My son was diagnosed with PDD last week, so we are sort of in the same boat. This diagnosis is of course after hearing a year ago from a developmental pediatrician that he was normal, but he just liked to walk on his tip toes and do all of these other quirks.

The number one thing that parents do of Autistic children is look for a reason why???? Unfortunately there is no answer, and no miracle cures, except for your time, spend as much time with your child as you can teaching them. Research so far has shown that it is a neurological problem (in the brain) and that if you have one autistic child the chances are high of having another. So have a look at your family tree and see if there is someone who has had Autism. Remember that not everyone was diagnosed as autistic back 20-50 years ago when they actually were people may have thought they were just weird. Anyway to finish on a lighter note BILL GATES is autistic so that should put hope in all our hearts and hey who would have picked him as having it.

I had many ultrasounds when I was pregnant with the five of my children because two of my children have birth defects which were obvious in the ultrasounds. Once a month for the entire pregnancy with all my children. I can only tell you that I just don't know. I wish I had an answer for you but I am as stumped as you. By the way, my children with the birth defects are not autistic, and my children born with ten fingers and ten toes are autistic. My baby is only four months old and she has a heart defect that was followed very closely in the womb with ultrasounds once a week and echoes once a week. Also non stress tests once a week. She did not get a lot of undisturbed sleep!!! I will be monituring her development closely and I will share it on the site. I
