Hi there Mom75,

My Son (5) has been diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers he is currently on Concerta (we were given the choice between Strattera or Concerta) but were told that with Concerta you see results quicker (we saw differences in 1 week especially concentration at school) apparently both work the same the main difference I believe is that Concerta works out in the evenings. The disadvantages I was told of both of the meds is that there is a temporary loss of appetite and falling asleep is difficult for them -My son has Melatonine for this which enables him to fall asleep.

The only thing is now they also want to give him amedication called Dippiperon-Ive never heard of it but have a meeting with the specialist in3 weeks time to discuss. I suppose this process is really trial and error and not easy on the nerves!!!

So how is your son reacting to the meds so far? How are you holding up?

Take care ;-)

hi mom75, my 11 year old son is autitic + adhd, and a few other problems, he was taking strattera, worked well for about 3 months, but taken him off it recently as the mood swings and aggression were to much to bear, he also lost his appetite on them as well,

OMG... Strattera litterally changed my family's lives! No more running around at 11pm with my son trying to get him to go to bed. My husband and I got our evening time back (which saved our marriage I swear). But the absolute best part of Ethan starting on Strattera, was that it was the first time that we could actually sit down and have a normal conversation with Ethan.... It wasn't him just telling us about his favourite toys, games, tv shows... you know how they tend to have one-sided conversations? We really found at that time, just how brilliant and interesting he really is! He has been on this med since the end of grade one, and is now in grade four.
Now I am by no means saying that our lives are perfect, but honestly, I wouldn't change a thing about him..... Anyone who knows Ethan would say that he is a loving, extreamly knowledgable, interesting little boy:)

Can you please tell me (those who have children on Strattera), what dose and what weight ratio, your children are on. Ethan is on 40mg/day.... and weighs approx 80lbs.

I am so happy to have found this site, to be able to chat with other parents of children with ASD(Asperger's) + ADHD!! I hope you feel as fortunate as I for having such an interesting child.... I truly believe that with enough cooperation between your child's doctor, the school board, and OT's, along with support from friends and family, these little Einsteins will one day grow up to be highly successful scientists, engineers, doctors..... hold on tight, cause we are in for the ride of our lives...... No one said that being a parent was going to be easy.... but they did say that being a parent is one of the most important, and rewarding jobs in the world ;)

Hi. I work in a school district, as a special-education paraprofessional. I have been blessed to care for and help many different children of various ages, with a variety of challenges. I recently listened to / watched a woman share her incredible story of raising a son with autism. It touched me deeply. Her son was healed, a few years back, and continues to improve in his schooling. I ordered her book and found so much hope in her experience. Hope that applies to everyone, including families with autism but not limited to only autism. My heart goes out to all. If anyone is interested in the details of the book and the radio / t.v. program, please e-mail me at [email protected]. (Since it is my understanding that some things cannot be posted.) With excitement, encouragement, and heart-felt appreciation and compassion to every family touched by especially autism...There IS Hope.
