my son is 5 and has autism. this sept 7 he will be attending his first day at a "normal" school. this school is wonderful it has a autism program right in the school and helps the children to be integrated with "normal" children. i am very nervous and anxious about his first day, but i know he is ready for this. I just wanted you to know that there are really great programs out there for children with autism and lots of support. you already found one support network right here!

ASD is the abreviated term for Autistic Spectrum Disorder. There is no treatment this is something that will you all will have to live with 4 the rest of your lives, but there is a lot of help out there u just have to look in the right places, try The National Autistic Society they r very helpfull! It may seem very scary at the moment but at least you have had a diagnosis at a very early age some times it can take years to get a diagnosis. In my opinion mainstream schools(normal schools) r no good they r not clued up about autism and treat the child as if they r naughty, there are again brilliant special schools out there my 4yearold goes 2 1 and it has done miracles for him! hope thats some help for you nicky

Teach you child sign language. Autistic babies, toddlers, kids can learn this quickly and it cuts down their frustration in not being able to talk directly to you.

With signing they can learn to communicate....works wonders!
