My son Hunter was diagnosed with autism almost 6 months ago. I am trying to learn as much as I can about the various programs and such to try and help him, but one thing keeps coming up, allergy testing. Is it a necessary thing to put him through? He has never shown any reactions to foods or meds, but the info that I have been reading says that it doesn't always show externally. I need some advise.

I would say talk with your speicialist / Doctor, if he isn't showing signs of anything being wrong why put his throgh something if he doesn't need to.

Hi huntersmomma,
I am not sure what you mean by allergy testing, is it where they stick you with all those needles? If so, I would probably only do that as a last resort!
I have been reading about other interventions that are dietary and biomedical, this includes getting a urinary peptide test to see if Hunter is able to digest and eliminate certain proteins from his body. These proteins are gluten (found in wheat, barley, oats and rye) and casein (found in dairy products). If he cannot breakdown and eliminate these proteins they can leak into his bloodstream and react at sites in the brain called opioid receptors, when the proteins reach the brain they act like heroin and morphine and can radically affect behavior, coginitve abilities, emotions, pain thresholds, and sound sensitivity.
I am getting my son tested to see if he has this problem, many autistic children do it is called a "leaky gut" if he does I am eliminating gluten and casein from his diet.
Biomedical treatments include vitamin/mineral supplementation, a diet avoiding foodallergens and yeast , Probiotics, Secretin and Heavy metal detoxification.
I too have been reading everything I can get my hands on, If you need to find a DAN!(Defeat Autism Now) healthcare Practitioner in your area you can go to www.autismwebsite.com and click on DAN! Good Luck!

Jack's story....

After the 12 mos. vaccines my son gradually slipped into autism. He was head-banging, hand-flapping, twirling, lost speech, lost eye contact and he just withdrew.

Now two years later.... no head-banging, no twirling, no flapping, has eye contact and is starting to verbalize again. And... he has Down Syndrome to boot. :) Yes... even kids with DS get autism. Actually they get it at a higher rate.

What helped him? First I give God praise.... our son wouldn't be here without Him and we prayed and I believe He guided us. Second... supplements. Especially cod liver oil. I recommend Green Pastures CLO with the X factor. Check out Dr. Mary Megson's work on the web. http://www.diet-studies.com/megson.html Our Jack healed gradually... but he is healing. I actually had to make myself GET USED TO him not twirling everything any more!

Also check out Dr. Amy Yasko's work. www.holistichealth.com

We give Jack alot of supps - cod liver oil, probiotic, magnesium citrate, tart cherry and recently we added cilantro. He takes some other things too but each child is unique. It helps to find a good naturopathic MD or chiropractor. Don't use supps until you research things for yourself. Cilantro for example...should possibly not be used until some other detox has been done.

Don't give up. There is hope! And... I will be frank here.... many mainstream doctors know squat about how to heal autism. Don't let that throw you. There are people who do know how to help. God bless you! Love, Jack's Mom :) [email protected]

for me I decided to get my daughter tested because she is so severe and I am kind of just looking for anything to help her, and with my son he is not as severe and i have not have him tested because I am not as worried about him
