No no no!!! That can cause premature labor. You shouldn't be engorged at this point, although leaking is normal. If you are having that much breast pain you should see your doctor because it could be something else. But please do not pump or try to express milk.

I was given steriod shots to help develope the baby's lungs quiker in case he needs to be delivered earlier than expected...could that be what is causing the pain and my boobs to be so engorged?

I don't know...you really should ask your doctor. But if you are already at risk for a premature delivery, you definitely do not want to do anything that would increase your risk, and any excessive nipple stimulation can cause contractions and preterm labor.

I was going to ask a question about this too... why is it that I was told NOT to mess with my boobs during my first pregnancy... but every single site I've looked at says that I CAN pump/bf my first child while pregnant? That makes no sense to me.

If your milk is already there it is ok... meaning the actually milk is in and you are pumping or breastfeeding your OTHER CHILD. What you have right now charles_and_aericka is just colostrum... after you have the baby and the placenta is gone, then the hormones get sent out. Once they are already in place it's safe. If you are getting shots for lung maturity then you are going to want to play it safe and try and keep that baby in there for as long as you can.

Starbucks here is a little info on Tandum Nursing. It is not written by a doctor or IBLC but it does have some interesting theories.

do NOT start pumping yet. It will only increase the engorgment, not help. Especially if you are prone to giving birth early do NOT NOT NOT start pumping. It is not safe in your condition.
