How did you end up in the hospital. Did you just give birth to your baby? What was wrong with your baby?

yes I gave birth to my baby on July 30th at 7:30 P.M. He is 8 lbs 6 OZ 21 and a half inches long. I had him with me in my room the rest of Sun all day Mon and we tried to leave on Tues Morn and the ran tests and said he was extremly sick with Jaundice and has to be under lights. They said his red blood cells are going higher than the white. I dont understand why they would figure this out right when we are due to leave.

Yes that happened o my son. But i told then that i was going to take him home. So i did. I placed him in front of my big bay windows when the sun was shining through. and on his check up 3 days later he had hardly and trace of it.

don't worry that is normal for a newborn to have jaundice!! My sisters baby came home and they had bilirubin lights at their house and people came to draw her blood from home! Babies livers are immature and sometimes kick out the red cells too fast ! He'll be fine in a few days I'm sure!

are you breastfeeding? if so are you going up to the hospital to feed him? if not then they will give him formula and that is not good for a newborn trying to learn how to breastfeed.

I had to come home with the biliblanket too, why was that not an option for you? I agree with Melissa, don't let them give your baby a bottle, most hospitals have courtesly rooms for moms, are you staying there? So sorry you are having to go through this..

sometimes they have spare rroms that the mother can stay in while the baby is having a more lengthy visit. that's what they did for my sister anyway...you might check on that and that way you'll still be with him and be able to feed or whatever the case may be.

Yes I am breast feeding him but I live 30 miles away from the hospital and with gas running 3.47 a gallon its hard to get there. I do pump and take it there every day, and get to actually breast feed him once a day. There are no courtesy rooms there. They dont even have a nicu. He is the only baby in the nursery....

Just had him transferred to a closer hospital that has a NICU. they have him on triple light therapy now. his numbers on the biliruban have gone up for the third day in a row. Also my rhogham shot must not have worked correctly because tests prove that we did have blood exchange thru the placenta. they are going to filter his blood to remove all my negative blood antibodies.

My son was just admitted into the nicu again for the biliruban going back up to 14.5 Is this normal for him to be released at 11.5 and days later have it skyrocket again???
