My daughter is 1 month and 4 days old. She cries sometimes when she makes a bowel movements even thought the movements are consistent and normal. She also vomited earlier (projectile) once. Then after vomiting she seems hungry but can't stay on my brest for longer than 2 minutes at atime without freaaking out and un latching. I bring these things up and no matter how freaked out I am her Pediatritian tells me everything is okay shes normAal and I worry because I'm a new mother. I feel overwhelmed and guilty that I haven't gotten a second opinion yet.

Crying sometimes during a bowel movement is natural, so is occasional projectile vomiting.

My 2nd daughter vomited like that 5 or 6 time within her first 2 months. Keep an eye on her diapers, if she is wetting sufficiently (check with your doctor as to how many wet diapers is appropriate for her age. My understanding is that infants should have at least 6 to 8 wet diapers a day, but check with your doctor.) then she is fine. It could be that she just needed to be burped or was being bounced a little bit too much.

Do not feel guilty that you have not gotten a second opinion. Do you have reason not to trust your Pediatrician? If so, then change. If your pediatrician is in a clinic, you can request another pediatrician in the same clinic for your daughter's next appt and tell them that you simply wish to get to know all the pediatricians on staff. This is a good idea anyways (one that my clinic recommends) because in case of emergency, your usual pediatrician may not be available and you have to see whoever is available. It is easier on you in those situations f you have become acquainted with all the doctors on staff. You do not have to stick with the same pediatrician you have chosen first. I myself have switched pediatricians a couple of times out of dissatisfaction (one was too busy all the time because he was so good, and another I just didn't feel comfortable with for some reason.)

As for not staying on your breast for longer then 2 minutes, is that only after having vomited, or is that constantly? If it is constantly, then I would look into it further. But if it is only occasionally or only after vomiting, and she is having sufficient amount of wet diapers, and a daily bowel movement, then I would not be concerned about her health, though I may be concerned about her comfort.

What exactly do you mean by 'freaking out', constant crying? It may be that all she needs is to be burped. It is good to burp babies in the middle of nursing. The time you switch breasts is a good time to burp. Then burp again after. Some babies will nurse so quickly making very loud swallowing noises, they get quite a bit of air in with the milk. It's kind of funny, I remember telling my babies to 'slow down' as if they could understand what I was saying.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your response. I think the Pediatritian is good she came highly recommended by my OB. She just seems to damn relaxed for my taste. I'm a nervous wreck about my daughter and she is so laid back. I think I want her to act a little more like a doctor and less like my mother about my concerns.
I have however been burping her at random and have discovered that she will let one out even if I haven't just fed her. And I find myself telling her to slow down as well, she chokes a little sometime between feedings fro eating too fast!

My two daughters both had projectile vomiting and we discovered they both had celiac's disease. This is a food allergy to gluten( wheat, oats, rye ,barley). They also had frequent fussies from what we later discovered was from tummy aches. It wouldn't hurt to ask about the possibilities. How is she doing on the growth scale? Babies with celiacs tend to be on the small end of the scale, but considering her age, it may be hard to tell just yet. If the doctor diagnoses reflux, check into the celiacs stuff. We were misdiagnosed twice for reflux when it turned out to be celiacs. I found out I also had it from my frequent headaches, stomach aches, mood swings, Irritable bowel syndrome and a variety of other symptoms which have completely disappeared since going gluten free. Don't worry if this is a possible diagnosis, it is a relatively simple thing since it can be controlled simply by changing your food rather than controlling it by meds, shots, ect. Let us know what the doctor says please. I am not saying she has this, just saying keep an eye out for the possibility. Take Care
