I had given birth to a girl at the 28th week of gestation. She is still in NICU now. I had to pump out my milk and pass to the nurse fm NICU to feed her. Her feeds have been increase gradually. I am so afraid that I might not have enough supply for her. I tried pumping out every 3hours during my confinement but not much milk produced. So I tried 4 hours also the same amount. I pumped 80 - 100ml fm both breast each time based on every 4 hours. It takes me about 45 mins to do it. I would like to try out some capsules which can help to improve my milk flow but afraid it might be harmful to my premature baby. Any solutions ???

This has some wonderful information about breastfeeding your preemie. It seems that you can use fenugreek, mother's milk, well anything. I would double check with the lactation consultant at the hospital to be extra sure. I think with the fenugreek you have to take around 9 + caplets a day to get desired results.
Congratulations on your little one! By breastfeeding you are giving your precious one a great start. I know pumping is very time consuming and I applaud your efforts. Way to go mama!!

I was wondering if you are getting a letdown when you pump? I had problem with one of my other babies baby when I pumped I didn't get a let down. I got an electric pump that was stronger and I pumped way more.

My first question is why are you going so long between pumpings? The more you stimulate the more you produce. Also the meds are a great choice for you. I would try and find some premie moms support groups. They are such a great encouragement. Also a really good pump is the best thing. YOu might want to do some research on the type of pump you are using. A hosp grade would be your best option. Also the cup size of the pump. If your breast isn't compressing with each cycle then it is the wrong size. Good luck to you! Congrats!

Turnip (Brassica rapa L.) is a root Brassica crop and has been used as a vegetable for human consumption in Europe since prehistoric times. Turnip root has been a popular livestock fodder for at least 600 years wherever the crop can be grown. For most of that time turnip roots have been managed as forage. Researchers in the United States determined in the early 1900s that turnip roots are valuable energy sources for young ruminant animals. However, livestock farmers at that time were turning away from the Brassica root crops (which also include rutabagas or swedes) for fodder because much hand labor was required for the production and utilization of the large roots. One study showed that the labor requirement on a nutrient basis for these crops was three times that needed for corn silage production.
