Yep so my baby is 4 weeks today and I've grown tired of watching her cry in pain when she gets her stomach aches and not knowing what to do. I've heard from many mothers that this is normal do to the fact that their bodies have to get used to digestion.

I was just wondering if any of you tried "Weleda Nursing Tea". I've read that it's suppose to help sooth the digestion in both mother and baby. I was wondering if it worked and if any of you have any other suggestions that would soothe my baby when she get's her tummy aches. So far the only thing that seems to help is nursing her and holding her body tight against me, belly to belly and rocking. Then it takes a while for it to pass completely.

have you tried massaging her tummy? i read in "Parent" magazine that one thing you can do is put your open hand on your baby's tummy and rub it in a counter-clockwise motion. it is supposed to relive the gas pains or digestive pains. i used to do it to my son but he liked it even when his tummy wasn't hurting. so it is worth a try. hope this helps

I've actually tried massaging her tummy, but not with an "open hand" so I'll give it a shot.

even if it doesn't hurt her tummy it will at least be a little bonding time for you both to enjoy. i still give my son massages ( when he will hold still). he is 9 mo old and walking already.

oops. i meant even if it doesn't make her tummy stop hurting. it is so hard to type when my son decides he wants to "help".

LOL, I understood and yes I've been doing that. Sometimes it seems to help and other's not so much but I try anyways. The odd thing Is she stops crying when I put her in the baby swing. It goes sideways and I have it laying back. I'm not sure what it is, but I tried it the other day cause she when I was holding her she kept wanting to nurse even though I could tell she wasn't really hungry so I put her in there and she just stopped.

when babies nurse there is a hormone released in your body and in your milk. my lactation consultant called it a "comfort hormone". they like to nurse just to get comforted. my son used to leave bruises on my nipples cause he wanted to nurse so much! luckily he started to take a binky. that saved my boobs!!

well thats definately plausible with how she reacts when upset. The only bad thing about it is when she nurses when her tummy hurts she stops and cries and the nipple pops out and makes a mess. She really know's how to get the milk to just fly out of there. Wish my breast pump did the same!

oh i hear ya. i'm currently trying to pump for a trip i'm going on with out my son. man it is so hard to get anything cause he drains me. and he is afraid of the noise my pump makes so i have to wait until he is asleep. but the only bad thing is he nurses to sleep so then i don't have any milk. oh well i guess i will eventually get enough.

I was reading "what to expect the first year" book and according to it, it sounds like my baby is suffering colic, which I think is still gassy stomach aches.....
she does exactly what it states though...
pulls up her knees, clenches fist, increases activity, closes eyes tightly, bowel activity increases and she passes gas, frantically seeks nipple only to reject it once sucking is begun or dozes for a few moments only to awaken screaming!
This is it to the tee what she does so I'm gonna try the Mylicone like the book suggest. The swing still helps though most of the time through these fits. I do it after I'm tired of her soaking my shirt from spiting out my nipple every other few seconds!

I forgot to put though instead of doing the fist thing she claws at her face or my boob or whatever. I have to hold her little hands. And she's been having these fits all day. Poor thing can't get an enjoyable feeding in. Hopefully the drops will help. She had another one of these fits right now when she was eating and I had to get up and walk around with her and she fell asleep so I put her in her swing and her daddy's gonna go out and get the drops. Wish us luck!

also at every diaper change if he needs it or not i take his legs and push them very firmly into his belly as if riding a bike for about 2-3 mins evry diaper change sometimes as you push the knee into the belly you can hear the gas come out thats when i push and hold . He seems like a happier baby and he likes it
