I was needing some advice on which pump/ pump brand works the best w/ the least pain. This is my first child and I'm unsure of which pump to buy.

I always found the hospital grade pumps to do the best. Many hospitals have rentals for a reasonable cost and all you need to buy is the attachments which they can usually sell you too. I never got hardly any thing out with the hand pumps, just sore arms!!

Do they give them to you at the hospital?

Most will set you up with a rental if it's a big hospital. Ask to speak with a lactation consultant. If you have prenatal class you can ask about the services they have for that.

Thanks for your suggestions I'll keep them in mind. We'll unfortunately I don't have $250 to spend on a pump but I can look for a used one I guess. This girl I know got a used one for $100 which would be more my price range.

Some hospitals will rent them out for $10-$20 a month. Definately check into it!

Medula's are wonderful pumps. The adjusts with a dial so it's very easy to start off slow and then once you get acclimated to it, you can turn it up at your own pace. I had a wonderful time nursing both my children and am planning on nursing this one as well (due in March). Best of luck to you!

I am a stay at home mommy with a one week old-I nurse him most of the time, but to increase my supply and store some milk for my husband to feed, I use a Medela Harmony. It's a manual pump (no loud generator noise) it works great-maybe 10-15 minutes to fill a bottle, and it was 39.00!!
It's easy to clean, and has a let down button...it was worth 5 times what I paid-if you stay at home, you don;t really need an expensive electric pump.
I also bought accessories, like the freezer storage bottles, and the breatfeeding kit-it comes with bottles, nipples, and covers for them.
Oh and all pumps and nursing itself wil hurt a bit for awhile, but Lansinoh has a great lanolin cream that will help the soreness wonderfully!

LOVE Medela-wonderful products.

Avent hand pump is great. I am a 26 yr. old with 3 chilren and that works best. I also have an electric medela pump, which is good, but the avent is hands down, the best.
Good luck and congrats.

my friend never got anything out with the electric pumps, she had to use the hand one because it latched on better. i think you should see what works for you.
