Breast feeding has been very easy for my daughter and I. She will be 16 months old when Bump2 is born (Dec 2006). Unfortunately, I have to have a c-section (very scary) - does anyone have any tips that will make our lives easier and perhaps less painful in Dec?

I had all three of my children via c-section. The first one was a footling breach. I breastfed all of my children. Your incision area will probably be sore. I layed a regular pillow over my tummy area to keep the baby off the sore area and breastfed. I would have my older child climb up on the sofa to change them there so I wouldn't have to lift them and hurt myself. I would cuddle with my older child while breast feeding the younger one so that they could be close to mommy and not feel left out. As for the c-section being scary, I was scared too. But, when you have the baby it is so fast that it almost feels like Christmas. When you hear your baby cry, everything will be fine. Good luck to you.

I also had a C-section (with twins). My daughter on the bottom was backside first breech. I nursed them both pretty much the next day and yes, it was painful but I found that the excitement over them helped me to deal with the pain. I also used to use a big soft pillow to cover my incision area but also, I found that you kind of find different positions that don't hurt as bad as others and honestly, there were times when I was just too distracted to think about it. I'm sure that you will find it to be easier than you think. I wish you all the best.

Jan - I had to have a c-section in June and found the easiest way to breastfeed was to use a Boppy pillow up high on my tummy (just below my boobs to start). I found that most of the pain was located right at the incision site, so if my hubby placed the baby on the pillow for me after I got comfy, it was well above the site and all went very well. I'm a nurse and I still found the C-section a little scary. In the end, the other ladies are right...there are so many other distractions and the pain is only temporary. Good luck!

I was scared to death when I heard I had to have a c-section. I'm VERY scared of needles and the thought of an iv, epidural & surgery set me off.
The thing that helped me the most (besides having a very caring support person with me) was wearing my ipod during the surgery. It may sound strange but I knew if I could hear the machines going and the details of what the dr. was doing that I could never handle it.
As far as pain goes I will say I was very fortunate and had very little afterwards. I was up and walking around the hospital within 24 hours of my daughter being born. I was slow getting around (def. not running any marathons), but it all turned out much better than I expected.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
