I am trying to breastfeed my 9 day old daughter with great difficulty. I am now getting desperate. One nipple has been damaged so much that I am having to use a nipple shield each time I use that nipple. I can't get her to latch on properly on the other one, which is now getting in a bad way also. Has anyone got any experience of using nipple shields on a long-term basis? I am now considering using them on both nipples in order that I can contiune breast feeding as at end of my tether. Please help!....

If the nibble sheild works for you-use it! I had problems and I used the sheilds until I was completely healed, I also used the gel pads to help with healing. After and during healing, work with a Lactation Specialist to see if she can help you with the latch on. If that doesn't work, keep using the sheild, I think they are heaven sent for girls like us. Keep an eye on your milk production, you might use a pump to help with this or you might try nursing without the sheild once or twice a day to help. Good luck and don't give up!!
