Hi! I guess you could say every pregnant womans body is different. I am 18 weeks pregnant now but i started lactating when i was only 7 weeks pregnant! But that could be because i already have another child and breastfed with her! And there has recently been proof that if a woman puts the belief in her head that she is pregnant being that she lones for a child so bad she believes she is pregnant she will if fact lactate. But if you are worried that you are not the father of this child you need to have everything confirmed with the doctor. i.e.: The age of the fetus for starters because many first time moms do not lactate until the last trimester and even then until after the birth of the baby. So have everything checked out

go to www.google.com or www.hotqa.com and there should be some more answers for you there. also usually towards the end of the pregnancy or sometimes around 29 weeks along

Is it lactation or just liquid?
I am 17 weeks pregnant, and I have been having liquid come out of my nipples before I had even missed my period. However it's not really breast milk at this stage. When mine started I didn't even know I was pregnant and so my doctor had me do all these tests to see if I had a tumor in my brain causing my body to produce prolactin. Your best bet to finding out what is going on is for both of you to go to a doctor together and if she is indeed pregnant, sit in the room while she has an ultrasound and see how far along the doctors say she is. Good Luck.

No, that's not a sign! It's normal to produce this before you deliver - some women produce it earlier than others that's all.

That I know of (a mother of three) no....it does not happen that soon. Usually the earliest times a woman starts to lactate is about 20 weeks (5months)...I could be wrong, but I asked my OBGYN just to make sure!

# Leaking colostrum: The early, super-charged, immunity-rich milk your baby will drink right after birth—colostrum— starts forming in your breasts early in pregnancy. Not all women leak, and leaking is no indication of your ability to produce milk. Some women think they have an infection when they see leaking or crusting of the milk on the nipple. Not to worry! Gently wash your nipple with a washcloth. In cases where there is significant leaking, you can wear a nursing pad to absorb moisture.

YES!!! it just means she is hydrated right and is healthy.. she has nothing to worry about except that she is going to want a good supportive bra and nursing pads cuz she is gonna hear a baby cry and leak... llol sad but true fact. but i think it is nice that you are concerned for her but yes it is all fine. she is just healthy...

i am 19 weeks and now every now and again i'll wake up with a little leakage. if i were you i would have her set up an appointment for a sonogram..the doctors can tell the age of the fetus by the measurements, that can help you narrow down exactly when she got pregnant. good luck

Turns out I am in my final month and started lactating the early vitamins that are necessary for the baby at the beginning of the month. This is my second child and I started lactating with my first the day after she was born...it's true...it all depends on the baby and the woman's body.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I'm guessing that the time a woman starts lactation varies for different woman. Some Woman don't start lactation till the 9th months, Some can start as early as the first couple of weeks. Not all woman are the same.

frank,

some woman can lactate in the first trimester, some people wont agree with my answer but i did start lactating within the first trimester.

its not milk milk but its like a liquid that comes out if your breasts are squeezed.

everyone is different , but some people do.

The earliest a woman will start to lactate is in the middle of the 4th month, and it's typically a clear or yellowish substance called colostrum. At 8 weeks, she wouldn't even be producing that substance.

Hello, i can't see when you originally posted this but women are able to produce milk prior to the second trimester. I am pregnant and started to produce milk at around 7weeks.
The midwife said that around 40% of pregnant women can start to lactate in their first trimester. It is all to do with a womens prolactine levels (hormone secreted from the pituitary gland).

Also when it comes to working out how long someone has been pregnant for the first day is calculated from the first day of the woman's last period. So if she had a period then first slept with you 8 weeks ago then she could be as much as 10-11weeks pregnant with it being your child. This is because a general period lasts 7 days then a woman ovulates-depending on the length of a cycle can be around 6-14days after the period (some women do have a lighter period when first pregnant so you would need to clarify with the docs)

Hope this has helped!!
