Why are you pumping?

why not? i dont want to breastfeed anymore but i want him to still have that nutrients, so i pump it into a bottle. for some reason i feel a better bonding experience with a bottle then breast, im not too sure why i feel that way, but i do. when i called the breastfeeding counciler she asked how old he was and i told her almost 3 weeks..he was 2 weeks and some days when i called...and she didnt say anything about it being to early to pump..they just said dont pump before your milk comes in. they say try not to introduce them to a bottle before 4 weeks because of nipple confusion but my baby does just fine...he still latches on to my breast when i havent pumped in time and he takes a pacifier so hes not confused...i think if babies are confused they wouldnt take certain things. he knows whats what though, if hes hungry, he'll spit the pacifier out because he knows it doesnt have milk in it.

I wasn't trying to be mean I just thought maybe something was wrong with your baby that made him not nurse. Like premie or something. I agree that nipple confusion really isn't an issue for most babies. I think that you can't tell how much your baby needs to eat he will just eat untill he is full. I breast feed my baby and never know how much he takes because I don't see it. I just feed him until he latches off. I have breastfed three children and I loved the expereince but I am so glad that even though you don't want to nuse him you still give him your milk however your supply may dwindel with time because no pump is as effective as you baby. I hope you can find the beauty and joy in nursing soon. It is hard at first but so worth it plus there is a lot to be gainned emotionally by your baby breastfeeding. Babies need a lot of close skin to skin touch. if you don't want to nurse may I suggest feeding the bottle with your skin touching his like with your shirts off. I am not trying to be controversial I have just seen the difference in the children. I speak from experience. My first born was bottle fed. Plus God made breast but man made bottles.

no, i didnt think you were being rude, i just thought maybe there was something i needed to know from pumping early or something. my baby was definatly not a premie..lol..he was 8 pounds 11 oz. he already weighs 10 pounds and hes 3 weeks. thats the reason why i asked this question is because with breastfeeding, i usually time him but i cannot see how much he is taking in. now that i know though, it makes things much easier. breastfeeding wasnt really hard to get down, i had the breastfeeding counciler help me and it REALLY helped. he latches on just perfect, but im not too sure why i want to bottle feed him. im still letting him take my breast every now and then but i love the bottle...i guess because i feel like he's full. i know you say that your babies just let go and quit eating when theyre full off the breast but i dont think its that way with my son. with the breast.he eats and then burps, eats some more and then lets go, but then lately hes been waking up an hour later or so wanting to eat again, so i dont think hes getting enough in that one feeding. with the bottle he sleeps good and doesnt seem as hungry. pumping my milk also doesnt take near as long as it does for him to eat. im scared that my milk may start producing less and i dont want that, but i feel more comfortable with the bottle. my fiancee usually sleeps with the baby on his bare cheast during the day so i think that helps. hes never shirtless when i breastfeed anyhow, it kind of makes me think hes going to be cold...i want my baby feed with breastmilk because my little sister which is 2 was bottle feed and she was sick all the time. im 18 though, my mom just loves kids.
also sonia, will what i eat affect my milk? i dont eat very often, not because im trying to lose weight but because im not hungry. like for instance, right now its 2 pm and i havent eaten anything. when i do eat, its usually a healthy soup or something homeade or fruits and such. i drink water constantly, but are my eating habits making my babies milk less healthy?

heather, as long as you are not severly malnourished not eating enough will effect you more that your baby. Your body will take from your bones and muscels to feed your baby. you should at least try to eat some healthy snacks so you don't lose your energy. I still wish you wouldn't use the bottle but I know how you feel. My babies nursed every hour the first three to four months and I thought the same thing that they were not getting enough milk. Breast milk for the most part is completly broken down which means it is digested faster than formula. All of your breastmilk is used where with formula a lot of it just sits in the babies tummy giving him a feeling of fullness. I know you don't use formula but breastfed babies need to nurse very frequently around the clock this is natures way in fact in some countries moms feed there babies for two minutes every fifteen minutes. I couldn't imagin this but one hour is a long time for a three week old baby to go without nursing. I'm still glad you have chosen to pump. I know it can be faster than nursing but your baby needs to be close to you for extended amounts of time. This is hard for mom but great for baby. I am also glad to hear that your fiancee is a big part of the picture my husband did the same thing with our sons. Best of luck any more questions I'd be happy to answer. I have a passion for breastfeeding and know quite a lot about it.

yes,, i had to pump for the first 4 weeks until my baby finally decided to breast feed, it was such a challange trying to figure out how much is too much and if she is getting enough. I let her tell me, even tho she was small they are very capable of saying when they are full. Some times she would eat 4 oz and sometimes 3 and so on.

my experience with the bonding and breastfeeding... it took till she was 8 weeks until i even kinda enjoyed it. she is now 7 months old and we are so in love!!! lol... it is hard for everyone to love breastfeeding right off. if you can stand pumping right on!! i hated it more than anything. A new article i read said that breast milk stored in the freezer or the fridge for more than 48 hours deminishes the antibodies, so be careful, stored to long it is no better than formula. hope i helped.!!!! ps what the heck is Kris talking about!!!!!
