I have a 2 1/2 week old who was just diagnosed with GERD (hereditary) he is taking zantac and nursing well but he still spits up copious amounts with every feeding and is really fussy after he eats. We are feeding upright and remaining so 30 minutes afterwards.anybody have any experience with this? and any tips on how to insure his meds get down? it smells awful so I am sure it taste as bad.

What form does the Zantac take. Is it a drink or syrup?

Have you inclined the cot a bit so your son isn't sleeping completely flat.

My son slept in his carseat during the day. The Dr. recommended that we keep him in there so he would be a little more upright, plus it's scary when they spit up laying flat. He was happy and the Dr. was happy, so I was fine with it.

I spoke to our MD and she is calling in some prilosec, hopefully that will work better. We have a inclined sleep positioner in the bassinet, and he sleeps on me during the day or in the swing ( if he lets me put him down LOL)

We tried Zantac also, and my dd HATED it - it was such a struggle to get it down, it was not worth it.... We switched to compounded Prevacid (in parlines and cream flavor - it is actually quite yummy), she actually likes it and it has helped a bunch! :)Jenn

Jennifer:Prevacid is our next option, hopefully the prilosec will work though. I can't believe doctors prescribe zantac to babies, they should try drinking that everyday! The Prilosec is grape flavored and my son loves it, it was like his first taste of real sugar! How long did your daughter have to take the Prevacid for?
