My 2 1/2 week old hasn't had a bm in 2 days. She's exclusively breastfed. Everything I have read says that it's normal for 3 - 6 week olds to start stooling less, but is it too soon for my baby to go this long? She's not fussy at all, she's eating normally, but when I hold her I can feel rumbling in her abdomen. Anyone else experience this? I'm waiting for the nurse to call back because we've had issues with weight gain too so I'm nervous that she's not getting enough milk.

No worries about the poopie, as long as she is not uncomfortable. With a breastfed baby they can go quite a while without pooping. I have bumped up a thread that has some good answers (including yours). My little guy would go 7-9 days without a poop for a few months in the begining (don't worry he has caught up). Breastmilk is digested so well that they use everything that they take so there is no waste. You are doing great!!!! What a wonderful gift you are giving your little one. Way to go mamaMara!

Well it's been two weeks and still no poop! We go to the doctor tomorrow for another weight check since Zoe is still under 7 lbs (as of last Thursday). The doctor wasn't too worried about the poop. But Zoe has the worst smelling farts ever! And she farts all day long. It never seemed to bother her until today, so I gave her some gas drops and she seems better now. Anyway - I never thought I would complain about not changing poopy diapers! I'm hoping that she has gained at least 5 ounces since last week...

I have a 9 week old infant and she is breastfeeding, our doc said that as long as she is passing gas she is good, my daughter went 8 days without going, from what i have read that breastmilk contains less fat and its asbord by the body alot faster than formula.... Watch the wet diapers as long as she is getting at least 6 she is good (that is what my doc said) my daughter gets at least 10 wets.... I hope that helps,,,,

When I took Zoe to get weighed on Thursday she weighed 6 lbs 14 oz. She has been gaining 4 ounces a week since she was 1 week old which they say is fine. But she still hasn't pooped so they said if she hasn't gone by Tuesday I need to bring her in again. I don't know what they'll do. She has plenty of wet diapers, and they said there's no blockage cause her belly is soft and she's a happy baby. We figured out why her gas smells so bad...I started taking a fish oil supplement!
