First let me say it is wonderful that you are breastfeeding. You are giving so much to your baby boy. You are also giving so much of yourself! When breastfeeding it is best to follow baby's ques, unfortunately no matter how demanding. Breastmilk is digested in about 2 hours or less hence the hungry baby that often. The wonderful thing about breastfeeding (and exhusting) is that baby and boob will make sure you produce the perfect amount and sometimes to do that he may have to nurse more frequently. An infant generally regains his birth weight by two weeks of age and then gains four to eight ounces a week, doubling the birth weight by about four months of age. Babies tend to nurse at least eight to twelve times in a 24 hours period, having six to eight wet diapers and two to three bowel movements during the same time. It is truly not a good idea to hold off feedings, right now your precious boy knows what times are best to feed. I was on a 2 hr feeding frenzy up until at least 3 months so yours going for 4 hours at night is GREAT! The number one thing you need to do is sleep when he does, whether it's for 5 minutes or 3 hours. Just sleep!! Everything else will be there when you get up. If you pump you can also give DH/SO a bottle to feed baby when he gets up so that you can get an extra 2 hours of consecutive sleep. It's amazing what that does for you. Good Luck!! You are doing wonderfully and should be so proud of yourself!! ↑ |

My daughter wanted to nurse every two hours day and night the first couple of months. By two months though the doc said she should be going at least 3 hours. She was gaining lots of weight, so that wasn't an issue. So I eventually got her stretched out to 2 1/2 hours then 3 at a time. Now at 7+ months she still nurses every 3-4 hours and doesn't sleep more than 4 hours at a time at night. ↑ |

My son is four weeks and is an every 1.5/two hour feeder. It makes me feel like he's not getting enough on each feed or that I am doing something wrong but I guess that's just normal. Thanks mama for the tips. ↑ |
