Hi,

This is a matter regarding who the father of a baby would be. The mother had an ultrasound on February 5, 2009, and was told she was at 8 weeks and 5/6 days. She had sex with Male #1 on Dec. 9th and Dec 11th, using a condom (with no apprent accidents/rips/slips). She had unprotected sex with Male #2 (including him ejaculating) on Dec 15th. Her first day of her last period was back on Nov. 27th, but her periods were all over the place last year, and that last one had actually been on day 37 (she averaged more like 29 days last year). Given all this information, does Male #1 have much to worry about??

Hi,

I am not an expert but I really can't see Male #1 being the father. An ultrasound at this point should be fairly accurate and even though you do not know your exact dates of your cycle the dating scan should be able to give you a pretty accurate conception date. I am like yourself and have no idea about my cycle but my dating scan stated that I was 9 weeks 5 days pregnant. Babies have pretty exact growth measurements up until the end of week 12. This is why a dating scan should always be done before this date. Your baby would not start growing until it was concieved even though pregnancy is not counted from this point, it is counted from the first day of your last period. Because of your dating scan I should imagine your cycle will be quite irrelevant as it is all based on the growth of the baby and this will happen only once you have concieved. Everything else is then based on averages. So, in other words. Your dating scan said you were 8 weeks 5/6 days which means that "in theory" your LMP would have been 5th December but you would have concieved around 19th December, 14 days after this. As I said I know you don't know your cycle but this is why dating scans are used so do not worry. Apparently the scans are accurate within 3 days +/-. This would mean that it would be almost a certainty that your pregnancy would of occured from the unprotected sex you had with male #2 on 15th Dec as sperm also can live for up to about 5 days after ejaculation. As I said I am no expert but I have quite a good knowledge I believe and there are never any certainties but I really REALLY think the chances of male #1 being the father are pretty much zero. Hope this helps.

Kind regards and congratulations on your pregnancy,

Katie
