I've watched so many documentaries on women giving birth and most of them seem to be screaming throughout! To all women who have given birth naturally, how painful is childbirth? What does it feel like? Is it painful to the point of unbearable?

If it was painful to the point of unbearable who would have more than 1? It's not a picnic that's for sure but you get a beautiful gift when it's all done. I had front labor and I thought it was like really, really bad cramps.

Well anyone who says it doesnt hurt is full of it! but its worth it and thats the main point. Also the reason why so many have more than one. Not because there is no pain but because the pain is worth it. I personally compared it to being hit by a very long train! You may feel at the time like it is unbearable or like you should give up but as soon as that baby is in your arms all pain seems to disappear... for a while at least! Afterwards recovery really isnt that bad honestly.

Definitely worth it!! But I do remember sometime in the 3rd hour making my husband swear he would get clipped the next day.

naturally do you mean no drugs? if so my story won't help, but I did have my son via vag delivery. Contractions do hurt the get worse as time goes on so it is not like labor is unbearable the entire time. Most of the time I could walk and be ok just stopping and breathing. My son was born face up though so as he decended it became much more painful. I get the eipdural. IT helped with the stomach cramps, but did nothing for my back labor at all. I had a drip so I could control the dose. at no time was I so medicated taht I couldn't feel my feet or the pressure form the baby. I knew when I needed to push. The pushing part for me actually felt good. it hurt, but it was like I could finally do something about the pain. I only had to push for a few min and he was out. I didn't scream becuase I knew that would make my push less effective. I think that the women who stay calm and in control do much better then the women who are yelling at all of the doctors and and anyone else they can find.

I had an epidural.. but I ended up letting it wear off because the pain wasn't unbearable. I had a continuous labor, also - which means absolutly no break in contractions. I dilated from 0 to 10 in only 7 hours. It's not fun... but I wouldn't be to worried. No matter what you'll survive and it's not as traumatic as it looks.

I got the epidural. Before I got the epidural I was in pain a little but after the epidural I didn't feel a thing. I've always wondered the same thing, if without it would be to the point of unbearable but... I've never had the guts to do it. With both of mine, once they offered the epidural, I accepted, lol.

I had 23 hours of labour. After the first 9 hours of contractions (of which only 8 were truly painful) I said "ok I'll take that epidural now" :) Yes it was truly painful but all of it was worth it!

i eventually had the c-section.....i was in full blown labour ( 30 second contactions for every minute - iwas getting induced by drugs..)

It WAS bearable........all i can say is ASK FOR THE GAS! if it doesnt make you sick..its the best thing you can possibly have it makes 5 hours seem like 5 minutes

I didnt give birth naturally I got the epidural but I did feel what the contractions were like before I got the epidural.....I was induced so there was no gradual cramping it was like a big bang and I had full blown contractions lasting about 30 seconds about every minute maybe minute and a half....I tried to stick it out as long as I could but than I decided there was no reason to deal with that pain cuz I wouldn't get a medal for it,lol....yeah after the epidural it was great, I could sleep and joke around and enjoy everything....I started to feel the contractions again once I started pushing but they weren't as bad because when you push the pain seems to go away a little bit, so yeah pushing feels really good....dont be worried about it though cuz its not as bad as your probably thinking

hi bri....i think your body goes into this state it's really weird....yes it hurts like hell, what can you expect :) you'll make it through....when i was prego with dev, i watched videos, and tryed to prepare myself for what i was about to go through, but it's really unnessary when it comes down to it- every experience is so, so different. one thing i will tell you is "the ring of fire"~ it is what it sounds...thats the widest part of babys head. it really hurts, but listen to dr. and youll be fine. i did, i made it out with no tears - we did o.k and you will to Have no fear!!!! :) YES- PUSHING FEELS GREAT!!!!

My first (Caleb) was painful to say the least. I had 8 hours of labor before i could have an epidural. You have to be so far along before they will give you an epidural. After the epidural it was ok. But then they shut off the epidural when it was time to push, which makes no sense. That was unbearable. I also had an oxygen mask on which made my lips very chapped and my throat just raw. The blood pressure cuff was also bad. It is plastic and they didn't wrap my arm in gause, so after serveral hours of it taking my b/p it just rubbed my arm raw. They tried 4 times to put in the I V and every spot hurt for about a week. Recovery was also bad because I had a 4th degree tear which is the worst one and it took a long time to heel and it was painful. In addition, Caleb broke my tailbone which is still not heeled and he just turned three.

But here I am 33 weeks pregnant and I can't wait for Gavin's arrival. A baby is the best gift in the whole world. I am praying the experiance is better this time but if it is as bad as the last or worse it still will be worth it. At the end of the day I just want a healthy baby.

My advice is simple, get an epidural.

I found it felt like really bad menstral cramp pain, and they would come closer and closer together, you just really have to breath and work though them, my labor was really long and I went with out drugs as long as I could be I wasnt dilateing and
I was in full active labor( long story short my little man went from head engaged to transveres so I had to start all over again)
I got an epiduarl after 9 hrs of labor, it did help for a bit but I felt really sick after so I only took one dose and and pushed my little man out with the help of a vacuum,
I never felt the urge to push, it was hard to push where they wanted I did tear but you dont feel it, it was when he came out, but it is so worth it
