Just thought i'd start a debate about whether to find out the gender of your child...

We are having our first child and I don't want to find out but my hubby does, so I was hoping to get some Pro's and Con's to help with our discussion...

It'll be interesting to get some other points of view from people who have had kids or are making the same decision now :)

Thanks :)

Well, my fiancé and I immediately decided that we wanted to know as soon as we found out I was pregnant.

It's makes it quicker to choose a name; we found out we were having a boy, and I can only imagine the hours wasted on thinking of a girl's name for no good reason.

Although we choose the interior design of the nursery in neutral colours, some of the things we bought are purely for little boys instead of having to find unisex things which can be limiting.

But mostly both of us are extremely impatient; I could never go through the 40-weeks without knowing. It would drive me mad! But then everyone is different.

The way I see it, you're going to find out anyway, and like most things in life, I think it's better to know sooner rather than later for practical reasons if nothing else.

i find out in a week! I want to, only because of the shopping. I want to have everything ready and pink or blue. But if it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't want to.

Good points, well made :)

I didn't think about the 50% wasted time and effort on speculation... Hmmm...

I do worry that it'll ruin the "magic" if there is such a thing above and beyond the birth itself...
Mind you, after x amount of time in Labour (And my family have a bad habit of being born in the wee hours!) I don't suppose i'll really care :D

Got me thinking now...
Thank you!

the magic of childbirth is getting your child here, and seeing him/her for the first time. I knew I was having a girl, and it was still the most amazing thing I've ever experienced when I gave birth to her and held her for the first time. I don't think anything could have made that moment more magical
