i want to homeschool my daughter, and i was wondering if anybody knew any good home school programs for southern california. she is in 7th grade[school is out in twon months, so i would be home schooling her for 8th grade +. i work, so any computer schooling programs would be WONDERFUL!, if that is even legal for her age, i dont know. i have done research, but i cant find any information on age and home schooling. if needs be though, i will quit and homeschool her. if i can do it for the last two months of her seventh grade that would be wonderful also. and is it year round? does she get spring break and all the holidays off also? could she do all her work in like 1 day for the week, the have the rest of the week to herself? would she be alloud to leave the house[go to movies or something] while all the other kids are at school? she hates the public schools, and i dont really like them either, they yell at her for not doing her homework[ just one time the whole year and she gets screamed at and detention, AND she is a A and B student] i dont like them yelling at my daughter. shes not thier kid! anyways, they MAKE her change at pe, even if she doesnt want to, [ they look in her locker, and if she has her clothes they stand there until she puts them on ] . i dont feel comfortable with them making my daughter strip, and then putting on her clothes if she doesnt want to one day. and all the teachers care about now, is getting thier money. these are some of the reasons i would desperatly like to homeschool my daughter, so does anybody have any advice?

I do not live in California, but I do homeschool...my son will be going into 7th grade. I have heard of computer schooling programs and metro community colleges will usually accept young kids for basic courses...i have not utilized either yet, but plan to start next year. I do hope that you have reported these abusive issues to the school...screaming at her about assignments and demanding a change of clothing at p.e. are very unacceptable, and should be reported...plus, it is good for public schools to understand what is disfunctional in the system. My son and I are going to this "Homeschooling through Highschool" conference this next week. I encourage you to find something simular. Your state should have a homeschool support group, ours is NICHE here in Iowa. I wish you and your daughter the best!

Ifound http://www.k12.com one night after my son was removed from a private school because the public school let him regress so much that he couldn't keep up with the others in his class, or really he just didn't want to be there either.

I really feared he was going to have to be returned to the dungeon of the institution of hell, just to fail and become a public burden.

http://www.caliva.org is the Southern California sector.

They loan you a free computer, provide free internet access, lots of free bran new books, access to a certified teacher, school supplies, art supplies, science kits, music instruments, online lesson plans, and much much more...

My step-father was blown away, who is a high school teacher, by all the things that he received. He can't even supply school supplies for he own students.

This is a publicly funded program overseen by the state.

You have to keep attendance, log your lessons completed, and have face-to-face parent/teacher conferences.

Believe me; my son is being educated well above his peers in the public school sector.

I can't believe the level of history we are teaching him at the kindergarten level.

Right now we are teaching him about Egypt which I never, to this day knew or cared about, but now find very interesting.

This program has saved my son from a life of doom, and this is not an understatement. I swear to this on my life... No... on my son's life as well.

The public school's only interest is funding, they don't give a rat's ass if your son or daughter succeed.

They gave me the, "Let's wait and see," attitude.

No... Re-Act Now!!

What are they going to say, "Oh, that didn't work, let's go back a few years to when he was in kindergarten and try it again."?

This is a person's life, and in life you don't have a rewind button.

By the way... I told the schools what my son was capable of with his math level and reading level.

They disagreed and said he was at preschool math and kindergarten reading.

I disagreed with them and said, “no he is at the first grade reading level and 2nd and above in math...”

They ignored me a continued teaching him at the lower levels.

When he tested out for these two subjects to attend Virtual Academies, he tested at exactly what I said...

Now I can see why a man with a doctorates and an attitude is working within the school district; because he can't get hired on anywhere else. He is just to stupid.

When I went to college, the education process required a lot of research and studies; I guess they lost that when they got their degrees out of the box.

I really can see who breezed through college without studying, always finding the easiest courses and easiest instructors. The sad part is that they run our schools.

And they wonder why California schools run last in the nation. I think I know why...

Melany,

That is ridiculous what your daughter is going through in public school! You know my daught er is int he first grade and she saif the teachers don't do nothing but yell. But you want to know what I believe. Some of these teachers got problems and miserable lives and take it out on the kids. That plays a part in it. Some of it has to do with discipline and plain out stupidity. I am homeschooling my daughter in August. I am already getting worlhsheets together off the internet. I have already found a teacher that will teach my daughter Spanish every monday out of the month in her home personally at low cost. That's good because all the attention will go to my daughter. What ever she doesn't understand I can teach her at home, I've had five years of Spanish but I figured if she got out more socializing with other people it would be even better. I want o stay away form the computer homeschooling for now. I want to teach my daughter from my past education. Iknow that there is a chursh where I live in Kentucky that offers Spelling bee contests, activites and much more for Homesschool kids. But right now I am puttinfg together her curriculum for next year. I am looking forward to it. I have the confidence to do it. Start calling around and hit the libraries for homeshool books too. It has helped me. In my opinion, I wouldn't go about just letting my child take lessons on the computer all the time. Let it come from the heart and education that you know. My child has told me that she learns faster with me than her teacher.
