Growing up as a teen today is so different than even just 5 years ago. There is so much more pressure to get into college these days than there used to be, there is a growing obesity epidemic and kids are completely wired on technology. As adults we know how important it is to exercise and eat healthy to help us perform optimally in the rest of our lives. We need to convey this to teens today. Most health clubs do not allow teens and even if they do they do not really teach them how to exercise properly. One good way to get them started and motivated is to have them work with a trainer. Not all trainers are equal though and you want someone that has experience working with this age group. You also want someone that is able to adapt to the teen's specific needs and interests. So much of working with teens is establishing that trust and connection. I can go on and on !! My passion is in changing the way teens view their fitness and health. My company is www.o2maxfitness.com and we have trainers that can work with teens remotely and can also help you find a trainer if you are not in the Los Angeles area.

I believe the key to prevent obesity is for parents to become more aware of proper healthy eating. Unless one has a medical disorder causing it then it can be prevented. All I see today is parents feeding their children to death. If more people took notice of what was really good for their children and instilled good healthy eating habits while they were young there would not be such a epidemic of obese people today.

I absolutely agree. It has to be supported as a lifestyle at home other wise even if the kids want to be healthy and active it all gets cancelled out at home. On the other hand it also hard for parents to be the ones to tell their kids as kids often tune out what the parent has to say!

When bringing up a child you don't have to verbally tell them what is healthy, you simply feed them what is healthy. As they grow they will continue with the eating habits that have been instilled in them since birth and most likely continue in to adult hood.

I see so many obese kids today and many are young children, most are not getting the proper nutrition and are being thought poor eating habits. These very kids will go on to becoming morbidly obese, all because they were being poorly fed by their parents.

I do believe that there needs to be more education for new parents on how to feed their child healthy from an early age. Stay away from the fast food, don't feed them cakes, cookies and candy all the time these things only lead to a unhealthy adult life.

Proper eating and a healthy life style cant be thought to them when they become young children or teens they need to learn by example.

It is great to see there is help out there for those that are unfortunate not to have the proper education at home and do find them selfs obese at a young age. If there was only more support out there then maybe there would be less teen obesity, as well as heart disease and all the other life threating ailments that go along with obesity.
