All of the stories of cats killing babies are complete BS. They are old wives tales. Cats are not stupid- they recognize Baby is alive and needs to stay that way, they're not going to lay on the baby's chest and suffocate it, nor are they going to lick it's mouth and smother it. When you first bring an infant home, the cat or cats are so scared by the intruder that they will do everything they can to get as far away as possible.
My mom has pictures of me when I was about a year old, in my crib with our kitty. I grew up perfectly fine and so will everyone else's child.
If you don't believe me, go ahead and google "cat kills baby" or "cat smothers baby"....all you'll get is a bunch of women who have been scared by these old wives tales. There are no real stories of this happening.

I read to set up the bassinet early and put balloons or aluminum foil in it, then if the cats jump into it they will be scared.
