My poor old lady dog is having more seizures! She is now at the highest mg's of meds that she can take. She is taking two meds to controll her seizures, both are beginning to not work for her!

She has a brain tumor and has gone deaf as well! The poor old lady cant even hear me any more, I have to use sign language with her.

I really hope the tumor doesnt get worse to quickley, I dont look foward to having to have her put to sleep! She is a sweet old girl, with nothing but love in her!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. It's really sad when they become sick like that. You're doin' the best you can for her and she'll know that you're helping her. How long has she been ill for?

Hey every one thanks for the support and kind words! She has been like this for almost two years. The meds at first worked great, as the tumor grew bigger the seziurs got worse! She is doing ok now but I cant help but wonder for how long. I do have to say I have had the pleasure of having her in my life for 13 years. If the time is close, at least I was able to enjoy her for as long as I have!

Another seizure!!!
My old lady dog had another seizure last night. I will be calling her doctore this morning to see what she suggests. The only thing I can imagon her saying can be done is...to increase her phenobarbital. The poor little thing is sure to be a bit drunk seeming after that!

Oh dear :-( sorry to hear that.

I hate to suggest it, but wouldn't it perhaps be kinder to say goodbye???

I am sorry!!!! This is horrible. Let us know what the vet says.

Atomic I know your suggestion are hart felt! I have given it some thought, also I spoke to her doc as to when she thinks we should do this. The doctor said she is only having a couple a month and thats not to bad. She said if they get to be more or worse then we should consiter it!

Momof 3 thank you for your words! I do appreciate them.

Perhaps the meds will help to control them and give you more time together.

I'm so sorry lindalu! I hope you can keep your dog longer without her being in any pain though! My brother took custody of my grandpas dog after he died and the dog was o.k. for a few years but then got real sick, lost alot of weight, went blind and developed tumors in his stomach. He was put on pain medicine but pretty soon that wasn't doing him much good and he eventually became paralyzed and had to be bathed and cleaned up alot because he couldn't get up to go out. Anyway,my brother loved that dog so much because it was the only thing he had left from grandpa and he didn't want to let him go. We had to practically beg him to put shadow to sleep which he finally agreed to do and it about killed him! It broke his heart something awful but he knew he was doing it for the right reasons and that it was time to let go.I know you will do what you need to when the time comes but just wanted to share my story and also tell you I know what it's like to love a pet so much and I'm so sorry you're having to go through this!

Thanks Lizzi! the tumor my old lady dog has doesnt cause her any pain. She is having weird affects like not beeing able to judge distance so she will bang in to walls. She is also starting to have more visual problems! I will know when her time is near, then I will make the appropriate decision to have her put to sleep!

It's so sad when we must make a descision like that isn't it? I've had my cat since she was a tiny kitty,(she's going to be 11 later this year). Anyway, she's been healthy and all but I know she won't live forever like I wish she could and I dread the day we must part ways,Gosh that will kill me to have to tell her good-bye!!!

Name: lindalu | Date: Feb 24th, 2007 3:00 PM
Thats true Lizzi it hard to say good bye. I have already had to do that with many of my pets and let me tell you it never gets easyer!

My husband wants to get a puppy but i told him not until the cat dies because this is HER house and she wouldn't like him bringing in a new animal! He thinks if we brought in a baby puppy and not a grown dog that the cat would be o.k. with it but i don't know, what do you think about that one Lindalu?

Name: lindalu | Date: Feb 24th, 2007 11:34 PM
Lizzi I do agree with hubby! I think if you were to bring in a puppy kitty would be ok. When I got my old lady dog I had a cat. Old lady dog was a puppy so my cat didnt care.

Dearest Lindalu,
I am so sorry you are going through this. I know how it feels to have an older dog that becomes ill. Only in my case it was very quick and not as painful as what you are going through. If there is anything I could do for you I would. My thoughts are with you and your sweetie dog. Thank goodness she has an owner like you who is here with her to ease her through this rough time in her life. Big hug.

Rain thank you so much for your kind words! It can be hard at times watching he slowly weaken. She has been with me since she was a pup and has always been a wonderful girl! I just take her condition one day at a time and hope she will remain comfortable untill the end!

BIG HUGS XXXXX!!!!!

I hope the same also. I hope it all goes easy on the two of you. Loving a dog for that long makes it difficult to deal with their illnesses and age issues. Know she has had a wonderful life, that you have given her along with happiness with your family. I hope all goes as easy as possible. My thoughts are with you always Lindalu-with you and yours.

Rain I havent talked to you in such a long time. How have you been? I really miss you!

Name: rain | Date: Mar 3rd, 2007 11:53 AM
I have missed you also; please do not think that I have not. I should have e-mailed you before this, but I just needed to get away for a bit. I know you understood. I have e-mail contact with a few people on occasion. How have you been????? How is your daughter? All is well here, children are growing up, and hubby and I are trying to make plans for ourselves. I am pondering over a career issue, but I will see how that turns out. I was so sorry to hear about your dog, and feel ashamed that I have not been in touch for a while. I see a few of the ladies are still here, and that is good to see. I hope all is well with you sweetie.

Hubby and I are going to Ikea to check out some furniture. We have been changing electrical outlets and covers in the house. Finally we are doing some thing to make it more homey! You have a great day with the dh!

We didn’t go out; I watched a movie and hubby went to purchase texture for a room we are remodeling. Then we took long lazy day Sunday naps. LOL, nothing got done, but we are relaxed and off to dinner. What did you end up with?
