What do you feed your bunnies?

We have 2 called Chuckle and Charlie and we feed them Supa rabbit excel as that's what the vet reccomended as each pellet is balanced, it prevents selective feeding...we have the guinea version for our 2 guinea pigs too.

I heard though that Excel should only be used as a dry food supplement,...never as a constant food??? Which has confused me as we keep a bowl ful in thier hutch or in the garden constantly and each morning we give htem fresh greens.... Should i be feeding them the mixed food? the Russell Rabbit type stuff?

I always thought this excel stuff was a food to feed instead of dry mix....not as well as???

Any help would be useful...

They need roughage... timothy hay is great... the dry food is pellets of alfalfa or timothy hay. If they don't get that type stuff, their crap will be runny. It can throw off their digestive system. They only eat grasses and grains and a few select plants in their natural state. Talk to your vet and see what they recommend further.

they have hay on supply constantly....always available to them. Their "crap" is perfectly normal.

Is supa rabbit excel a suitable food to feed INSTEAD of mixes such as Russell Rabbit? Otherwise they have a completely balanced diet...plenty of greens plus the plants they demolish when they come out and run around!

Russell Rabbit is the best rabbit food you can buy. The vet recommended it when I kept rabbits.

Russell rabbit aint the best! We have been told for all 4 of the rabbits we've had in the past year that it's the best food for bunnies as it prevents selective feeding.

We have always left our bunny (when i lived with mum) in a "Small Pet Hotel" lol and I went there yesterday to book chuckle and charlie and the guinea rats in for the summer and asked if they feed them what we feed them at home. She said yes and asked what we fed them. I said supa guinea/supa rabbit excel and she said that thats the best thing to feed them.

Im feeding them the right things. They are healthy anyway...they probably eat a more balanced diet than me! lol...thanks for your help!

You have to get hay. Timothy hay is best. Oxbow is a great company for buying hay from. Pellets are just to help supplement and they should get fresh fruits and vegetables too. Alfalfa is only for young rabbits and pregnant rabbits. Especially this time of year when they are blowing their coats, hay is needed to prevent hairballs since rabbits cannot vomit like cats they are life-threatening! I am a vet tech and have seen too many rabbits die because their owners never fed them hay. P.S. make sure your guinea pigs are getting hay too as well as Vitamin C since they cannot store it at all!
