I am 23 weeks pregnant and I have a 9 month old cat that I can't stand!!!! He has ripped my leather couch (already declawed) and is wild.... we have tons of his hair all over our bed(sick) and he just is annoying to have around. He gets into the bab'ys room.. and I'm just worried what will happen when the baby arrives.. I don't want to worry or have any problems with him sneaking up on the baby... so my question is... should I get rid of him? or put up with it? I have spent so much money on him and feel very bad about thinking of giving him away.. and may regret it.... but I just dont know what else to do... any suggestions?

My first question would be could you stand him before you were pregnant? A lot of what you are feeling could be hormones... if thats the case I would tough it out.
However, if you genuinely tried to like the cat and it isn't working out I do not see anything wrong with re-homing him. I would say it is your duty if you chose to get rid of him to be patient and find the right home. It is only fair. Sometimes some animals just aren't compatible with certain people or in certain households. By finding a nice home for him you have done nothing wrong. Next time you decide to get an animal maybe you will adopt and offer the right home for a different mismatched animal. Either way as long as you don't dump him in a shelter or on the street don't feel guilty. But, be sure it isn't just your hormones. Heck, there were times I wanted to get rid of my husband! HA HA

OK. I have 2 cats ... and a 4-month-old son. One cat is very placid, she comes indoors, has a bite to eat, and goes to sleep for the evening ... but the other is half wild and a little crazy like yours. Both my cats are primarily outdoor cats. Cats thrive in the outdoors, they're essentially wild animals. My 2 cats have a cat flap into our detached garage 24/7, where there are beds for them, and food and water whenever they please. They are only allowed into the main house in the evening times after my son has gone to bed. Cats and babies are not a good match. Then they are put out for the night so they can go hunting, and they are also out all day; they normally curl up in the garage, and like I say, they get attention from me only in the evening time, as my son takes priority and they're happy cats. Have the cat be an outdoor cat and only let him in when baby is sleeping.

Thanks for the advise! I'm still thinking on it... trying not to make any rational decisions while pregnant..... and my husband is the next to go! haha...just kidding!

Oh! And have set houserules too. None of the run of the house nonsense, especially with that hair loss and bad behaviour. My cats are allowed in the kitchen where they can eat and drink, and are allowed in our family room where they can sleep. And that is it; they are under no circumstances allowed upstairs, and are never in the main house unsupervised.

Well my husband says that he cant go outdoors cause he is declawed.. and our neighborhood does not allow unleashed animals outside... so I cant do that.... and I try to keep him contained in certain areas... but after the 10th time of telling him no.... I get tired of it..... as long as he isn't in the nursery.... he tries to sneak in.... but he knows better....I'm still faster then him! haha
