Any dog can bite.....yes we know that. Dogs of other breeds usually bite because they havent been neutered, are protective, or have their hair pulled or are sat on by someone. Other dogs bite. They dont attack and rip you to shreds.

However, there are NON-aggressive breeds. There are breeds that have been bred to herd cows, There are breeds that have been bred to smell for hunters, there are breeds that have been bred for companionship. Pitbulls are bred to kill. When are you going to get it. Is it ever going to sink in?

Dummies back in the day breed them to fight or be aggresive not knowing the problems it would cause. Just like man kind is now breeding other types of dogs god knows the result! I'd be angry to if I was treated a certain way and did not know how to explain it or handle the emotions. Then be scared when every someone went to touch me. Wish we all had a time machine and could go back and stop the stupid things man has done. From rasicm to now animals being hated and put down. I know of a story a man shot his dog because it scared away the deer he was hunting! Poor animals!

I have said it once an I will continue to say it, you are ignorant.

Pit Bulls were bred to be ANIMAL AGRESSIVE, not human agressive.

Herding dogs often get very bored in a familt type setting and will damage everything possible. Hunting dogs can and will attack other pets, infants and small children. IT was earlier this year that a lab attacked and ripped a woman face off in London.

NO BREED IS NON AGRESSIVE, they are animals first and companions second.

A pomerinian killed a 8 week old baby.

So say that banning pit bulls is the correct thing to do is moronic. The ATTS does temperment testing every year and pit bulls regularly score much higher that chihuahua's, lab, and dalmations in good temperment.

Rescue, I used to think like her for a long time. That was until I started voluenteering at the zoo, and local humane society. That's when I started doing research and studying about all the different breeds I could.

I have a passion for animals, and I cried almost as much when Steve Irwin died as I did when my great grandfather died. Sad to say but still true.

Honestly, most dog breeds are not for most people.

Take for example a few of the most popular breeds.:

Labradors, need tons of exercise. They also have a good deal of strength and are still immature until around age 3. They are not that good for smaller children due to their size.

Dalmations are are the bottom of the chart of intelligence and the same applies to them as with the labs.

Border collies are working dogs 110%. They need a job or will go crazy pent up or chained all day. That pent up energy will turn into self mutalation or tearing things up.

English bulldogs have more genetic problems than almost any other breed. They have to be AI and have c-sections to deliver. They have skin alergies, eye problems and usuallt have bad hips and knees.

Cocker spaniels have a horrible score on the ATTS and score lower than most of the bully breeds and "dangerous breeds". They also have weak elbows and hips due to poor breeding and inbreeding.

GSD have been poorly bred for 20+ years now and have had too many resulting problems resulting. They have poor hips, frequently go bling at an earlier age, and will tend to get more agressive as they age.

Honestly, for a first time pet owner I would only recommend 2 breeds, a pug, or a basset hound.

Any potential pet owner needs to do all research before getting a pet and have a support system in place comprised of a local breed specific rescue of the breed you choose, your vet, local veteran pet owners, internet forum boards (LOL) and the whole family needs to be invloved in the care and training of the pet.

Pits are bread for fighting other dogs not for attacking thier human counter part, in most..... and you notice I say most cases they never bite the handeler. Most will however.... attack another animal and even some times, depending on his breeding and handeling attack a small child. Many people say hurding breeds are aggressive too, I wouldnt recomend a hurding breed for a family with small children. Look at the German Shepard! thay are hurding breeds and have been known to attack vishously as well. We all have our breeds we prefer, and if they were to abolish all the bully breeds the lab & goldie would take thier place. I love the bully breed and I did have an American Bull Dog not very long ago. I did realize that the bully breed wasnt for me, my bully didnt get along with any other dog but the one he lived with. I loved the dog but I made a choice and found him a more appropriat home. So you see I am not for the breed but I am certaintly not againts them eather. They do need to be placed in the proper homes with no other animals or small children.

lady, its me again gerr lol. Your really something. Pit bulls WERE bred to be bait dogs but once people say they had a drive they started to breed them for fighting dogs. Then they were bred to kill other dogs, not people. The people breeding theese dogs for fighting didn't want to stand in a ring with a dog that would attack them, hence, they were bred to be a sound dog towards humans. there is NO such thing as a NON AGRESSIVE breed of dog in the sence of being human agressive. ALL breeds of dogs can and have attacked. Dont forget about the Pom that attacked and killed a baby, don't forget about the stories of the poodles and labs shreading people apart and don't forget about the reports of your beloved cockers that attack and kill small children and babies. The ONLY breed of dog is is proven NOT to attack are the breeds you can buy at KB TOY stores.

Ha. I've never been even close to attacked by a pit. I've been chased several times by herding breeds.

I guess it would be easier to realize that a bitbull is bred to kill is all bitbulls where out there riping people to shreds but unfortunately this just is not the case. Yes Pitbulls regardless of how you look at it are aggressive dogs as well as are rotweilers and Huskys. When I had my husky I would have sworn that that dog would have allowed anyone to walk in my house and all he would do is jump on them and licked them to death. I was actually wrong. Infact I was outside by myself one day and my neighbor wanted to pet my dog. I okayed it. But the minute my neighbor entered my yard my dog jumped in front of me, started pushing me back, was showing his teeth and growling. I told my neighbor that I was sorry, that he has never done this before but that I guess to be on the safe side he wouldn't be able to pet my dog. When I was 5, my family had a german shepard and if she didn't know you and you entered our yard when my sister and I was outside I can guarentee you that she would have attacked. We ended up having to put her down because she did just that.

As mentioned in another post my sister has a pitbull who is a big baby. You can pull his tail or his ears. You can sit on him or lay on him. You can drag him across the floor by his paws. And he doesn't give a rats. Infact he just lays there and takes it. He has never bite any one or even nipped at someone, he has never growled at anyone. And the only time that he barks is when he see someone that he knows otherwise he doesn't give you a second look.

Ethansmom-

In some respects you are right however pitbulls are not good guard dogs and rarely will protect their home. They may bark or growl but overall they will turn and run with their tail between their legs if the person enters their territory.

Name: EthansMom0213 | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 5:36 AM
Yep that's her dog alright...LOL. Anyone was able to walk in and out of my sister house and her dog could have cared less. He barked a little but usually he would just run to his kennel and stay there.

Name: Tiffany_SPCA | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 5:37 AM
haha cute... I love that about them.

Name: EthansMom0213 | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 5:58 AM
Now my dog who is less then 15lbs will attach himself the minute you try to enter my house. I think he thinks he's a big dog.

Name: Bindi | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 6:12 AM
my pitbull its really funny when taking him out on walks and you meet someone he doesnt go out to meet them or bark or growl he hides behind my legs

Name: EthansMom0213 | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 6:14 AM
Oh but according to Hiddy pitbulls do not show fear.

Name: Bindi | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 6:20 AM
oh but according to Hiddy we are all morons and who knowes what else just because we own a pit

Name: EthansMom0213 | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 6:24 AM
I just posted in another room asking her if she was concieved to be an aggressive person or if she was taught.

No we are morons if we believe everything that we read. As mentioned in other post these studies are done on a small number of pitbulls not on every single pitbull out there. And this again this is why they continue to redo studies all the time and with each study the find new things that they didn't see in the last study because they are different dogs.

Name: Bindi | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 6:41 AM
thats also why with each report they do pitbulls are becoming less agressive with each one

Name: EthansMom0213 | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 11:38 PM
Pitbulls WERE bred for fighting not to kill. It was banned back in the 1830s and is still illegal to this day.

Name: Hiddy | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 11:41 PM
You want a report on every single Pitbull out there?

LMAO....didnt you do maths at school, dont you know about the law of averages?

Name: EthansMom0213 | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 11:49 PM
There you go. It is based on the average pitbull not on all. All studies are based on the average as a results those who actually are well behave get a bad rap.

Just like each pregnancy is not alike neither is every dog.

Which makes all of your facts not 100% accurate. Because 100% accurate would mean there would be an average, each pit would be the same in behavior.

lmao

I am literally rolling around on the floor laughing here.

You are a mathematical genius EthansMom.... a statistical wizz
lmao!

well her statement is rite.

Actually you are very wrong. All animals have the ability to "rip you to shreds" I have been attacked by a cocker spaniel and a Lab that both did serious damage, for which I had to go to the hospital. I think that you need to do some research on breeds before you go bashing one. What kind of dog do you have. Let me know and in about 1 hour I can find plenty of negative information. It is people like you that make me sick. If you dont like the breed, dont deal with them. But I would suggest that you dont try and talk about things that you know nothing about.

Name: LadyB | Date: Oct 22nd, 2006 7:57 PM
Aaahhh! You are so dumb. I can't even answer with tact anymore. You are an idiot. Plain and simple. An idiot. Yes, I am going to be the immature name caller because I just can't handle your stupidity anymore. It is exhausting.
You are the one who doesn't "get it". All of those breeds did not have human aggression bred OUT, like pit bulls DID. Get it?? Human aggression=bred out of pit bulls. Simple enough??

And it's PIT BULLS...two words, Einstein.

A collie is a herding dog. We had one and of course her name was Lassie. Lassie was nice and gentle. Until some road workers came in the yard, when they got close to Lassie's herd (my children) Lassie turned and bit them. Even dogs who are not bred to be violent will bite. Lassie gave one man a bite that took 18 stitches to close. And she would of done worse if I hadn't of told the kids to get on the porch and she followed them. If they had presisted on getting by the kids she would of tried to kill them
