i am so glad I found this site because i wanted to share my recent experience. A friend found a kitten in a field and didn't touch it for 2 hours thinking the mom would return to get it but she didn't so he picked it up and gave him to me. He was born that day...still had after birth, his ambilical cord, and his eyes and ears were still closed. I spent the last 2 weeks bottle feeding him every 2-3 hours and it hasn't been easy but milestones like his ambilical cord falling off, opening his eyes, and learning how to suck on the bottle and walking all wobbly....well it makes it well worth it. If anyone can't handle the constant care of a infant puppy, kitten, or other small mammal...please feel free to contact me and I will gladly take it and give it back once its weened or find it a great home if you don't want it all together. I am so tired but my little Peanut...thats his name....is sleeping, warm, fat and happy!! So who cares about a little missed sleep he is finally able to go 6-8 hours between feedings.

no accually not all kittens are infants. They are still considered a kitten at 1 yr of age and that is not infant....they are not infants anymore at 2-3 months old because they eat regular food by then. they develope a whole lot faster than humans do. But thanks for making fun of me and being rude i really appreciate knowing that placing something nice and heartwarming for people to read would result in people being mean.

I think what you have/are doing for the kittens/small animals is a wonderful thing. Don't pay attention to peoples rude reply!

Thank you Linda. I also bought a puppy for my husband yesterday from some wonderful breeders that were hit with all the flooding so we have a new addition to our family name Beaujangles ...we call him Beau, he is a beautiful chocolate lab. I will post photos of the kitten and puppy soon....they already love each other.

Well, I am fighting the fight for my girl Abby but certain family members just don't want to step up and ease her pain and suffering. I believe it will only be a matter of time before their selfishness is over and they do what is right. In the mean time I got her on some medicine that eases some pain and I make sure she has help to go outside and that the new puppy doesn't bother her. Thanks so much for all the kind words of encouragement. This is a rough but blessed time. I am so glad to experience this now so that when my children go through it I will know how to comfort them.
Lots of Love! God Bless,
cristin

I think that is AMAZING! what you did...i dont know if you relize this but you saved that kittens life, it was hopeless and you opened your arms and took him in! God Bless people like you!! Most people would just leave it and forget about it but not you! My family found a kitten at your door step truely a gift from God. He was about 2 weeks old and so beautiful! We took him in, just long enough for him to grow up a little bit. Then we put up flyers for lost kitten and went around the neighborhood, but no one wanted him :( poor fella. My mom is very allegic to cats, and we didnt know much about them. Tiger (his name) was getting sick from wrong kinds of food (oops!) He wasnt really sick. So we took him to the shelter and while waiting to say good bye a family asked if it was a boy and we said that we didnt know. They shelter helpers comfirmed it was. So they said they would take him! He got shots and he was no longer sick!!! i was happy :)

Thats wonderful. Yes many people don't know much about caring for unwiened kittens, puppies, squirrels, rabbits, and other little helpless creatures. Thats why I started this descussion because I don't want people to do nothing. I think it is great that you helped Tiger and now he has a loving home. I am trying to spread the message for "unwanted" abandoned animals that if we just take a little time to help and do the right thing then there wouldn't be so many being put to sleep. For example....a woman on craigslist.com found an ad posted by a not very nice man that had a mother cat and her 5 kittens and was going to quote "dump them" by the end of that day unless someone came to get them. She did and posted pics of them to adopt them out but also she spoke with her local vets, animal shelter, and the SPCA, as well as the protective animal league and got all of their shots and spay and neuters for next to nothing and some for nothing. By doing this she is ensuring that even if they get abandoned again they will be healthy and unable to reproduce more "unwanted" cats that would most likely get put down. On your local SPCA website they will tell you when they have what they call neuter scooter and it is just $0.05 for the neutering of male cats plus I think $10.00 for pain meds but they don't have to have that, and they give all the neccessary shots for really cheep if the cat doesn't already have them. So last year I spent all of October gathering up the stray males in my neighborhood and took 7 males plus my own little Bob and then kept them for a while till they were feeling better after surgery...my family, friends, and neighbors donated crates and carriers and kennels to me for this project....and someone even donated a bag of cat food and one lady brought me a case of wet cat food and 3 bags of cat litter....which was nice for before surgery but after surgery they use shredded newspapers so i have saved all our papers up for a good while. To pay for the shots and pain meds....b/c I couldn't let them be in pain....I asked my neighbors to help however they could even a quarter would help and I offered to mow yards, rake leafs, babysit, and numerous other tasks to earn the money. Also if you drink sodas take the cans to one of those recycle machines that pays you for the cans.....I do that now just for this purpose and it makes me feel good knowing I am helping our earth while saving some animals. I just want everyone to think outside the box....and stop complaining about our problems....find a solution and take action. God Bless all of you and if you need help or if you wanna help but can only do so money wise then donate to your local SPCA or NO KILL animal shelter. They also take donations of food, litter, blankets, toys, and various things. One more thing....if you can't have a pet but love animals...looks for sales at your grocery store and coupons and buy food, or litter, or toys, or anything animal related and take it to SPCA or No kill shelter once a month....this is an inexpensive way to make a difference and save some lives.

I love that! I am putting that on a T-shirt and wearing it everywhere!!!!!! I have to admit though I did buy a dog for the first time ever 2 weekends ago. they got hit with all that flooding and my husband really wanted a chocolate lab so I got one.....he needed a home they were going to the shelter in a matter of weeks if not so its like I helped that family with their flood damage.....kinda good? I think it was. We are very happy with Beaujangles and he is happy here so i feel good about it. But normally we rescue from the pound and other various ways.....like strays we can't find owners for end up staying...its so terrible but we love animals and we just cant help ourselves. we now have 3 dogs and 3 cats....one dog is being put to sleep soon b/c she is very old, very sick with cancer, and in a lot of pain. She has lived a good long catching frizbies life though and we love her.

aww im sorry about your old dog :( atleast she lived a great long life with great people :P As i mentioned before i love our near by shelter and look at their website constently. Here's a quote that i found:

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible!
Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something," He replied.
"I created YOU.”

Awww....I love that!!!! Peanut is 5 weeks old now and doing really good. The other cats are warming up and starting to play with him. I am really enjoying this time because in about a week he won't need me as much and in as little as 2-3 weeks he won't need me at all except to fill his food and water dish and pet him when he needs attention. Thank you Lauren for all your kind words, you are a true sweetheart.
May God Bless you everyday!

I dont know why i was never able to get one before, but oh well. I wrote my mom like 5 essays on the pros of dogs, and saving an animals life. So finally it all worked. Today was shelter day :) We went everywhere and it was so sad!!! We didnt find anything that we wanted because my mom has expectations :PP We are going to keep looking but i cant wait to have a little animal in my home :)
