I have a new Shih Tzu puppy. She is now going on 7 weeks old and I have had her for two weeks. Potty training is going great, she is going outside for that.
The crate is a nightmare! I have tried working with her during the day by playing with her getting her to get into her crate by herself then rewarding her when she does. Then once she is in there I close the door, if she is in there without crying and laying down I reward her again. At night she has been waking up every 2 hours crying and whining really bad. I make sure that she has pottied before bed, ate, and had plenty of play time. I put a toy and a chew in her crate with her. I praise her everytime she gets in her crate and when she stops crying I go check on her and praise her. imes I have got her out at night to see if she needs to potty she does not. It has been 5 days now with this pattern and it is not getting better! The whining is starting to get to me. Other freinds and family have advised me to allow her to cry until she learns that crying will not get her out of the crate. My husband is almost at his wits end and I am about to go crazy! How long will it take to get her use to her crate and sleeping all night without whining????

Your friends and family are rite, let her wine. After a couple nights she will realize shes not getting out and she will stop. Once she is crated for the night do not check on her, checking on her will only get her crying again. Crate her and ignore her until morning.

Good luck!
