Hi Charla!!!

After working in ICU & ER for over 10yrs this is what I've seen.... (Not including police dog bite's.) LOT"S of dog bites by Labs. Then the rare bite by a Rott or a Pit, but over all most of the people were bitten by Labs.

The wounds were not as severe as the Rott's or the Pit's though.

But as you know I love all those furry critters. And if it was possible I would have one of each :)

i would like to add to stacy's finding my hubby works in the trauma unit of a hospital and i asked him in this year alone how many bites were brought to the trauma unit and of those what breeds were thy and this was his responce: 5 in all for the months of jan - now october 21st, 5 bites were brought in 4 of which were police dogs during drug bosts gone bad he did not know the breeds of the dogs used by the police but the fact was that they were police dogs. the 1 that wasnt a police dog attack was a mix breed of great dane and dalmation it severed a 3 year old boys arm off at the elbow.

I thank-fully have never been bit, but my brother was bit 3 times by our cocker spaniel. He was bit 3 seperate times, once under each eye and once over his mouth. But I want to add, that each time that the dog bit was my brothers fault. He was little and tormented the dog. I think that all of us are forgetting that some dogs bite in self defense. When they do, no one says, "It wasn't the dogs fault". In this case it was my brothers fault and we had to get rid of the dog, and she was a great dog.

momof3 i agree about the reasons for the bite, my purpose for this survey was to show that whomever posted or even how many posted you would find that there would be ALL different breeds giting not just one in paticalur.

My best friend was bitten yesterday by a Jack Russell Terrier/Bird Dog mix. Mean little critter.

My cousin was attacked by a German Shepherd when he was four. The dog put his whole head in his mouth and ran around shaking him until they caught the dog.

No one I personally know has ever been attacked by a pit bull.

RE: starting a survey,

It takes more than gathering information off a bunch of Pitbull lovers to conduct a viable survey from which you can gather correct statistics.

Ive been bitten by a Wire Haired Terrier. I was bitten by a German Shepard, when I was about 7. Ive been snapped at by an Australian Cattle Dog. Ive been bitten by a basenji. Oh, I could go on.

As for a Pitbull, never been close enough to let one bite me.
Id rather be bitten by any other breed than a pitbull.
I stress the word "bitten" - Pitbulls tear you apart.

None of the dogs that bit me made a wound serious enough to send me to a doctor. With the German Shepard, I was at my mothers work, the German Shepard was a guard dog and because the business was not a business where the public would visit the dog was only used to seeing the same workers there, day after day.

My Mum went in to drop off some bank books and told me to stay in the car. She was taking too long so I tried to get out and follow her. The dog jumped up and pushed me down on the ground and held me down until the boss came out and told him to get off me. He didnt even put pressure on his jaws when he bit me.

See, German Shepards were bred as guard dogs, not as fighters. Had my mothers boss had a pitbull as a guard dog, because they are TERRITORY aggressive, I doubt Id be alive today.

I know you are all rookies, I know its hard for you to understand, breed specific traits and genetics. But we will just leave it at that shall we?....lol

Its kind of scary seeing the Pitbull owners in here defending their dogs, considering that in most of the attacks by Pitbulls, its not the owners who get injured, mostly its children who dont even belong to the Pitbull owners family, and the families of these children. Seeing their kids either fatally wounded or scarred for the rest of their lives

Im a bit above debating something that is FACT.

hiddy my post is for dogs that have bit you nothing more nothing less. state your bites and move on.
i will admit i do not know enough about any one spacific breed that is why i am doing this survey. may i suggest a book to you: FATEL DOG ATTACKS AUTHOR KAREN DELISE. you might find it very interresting although i will be quick to point out that of course it is not what you want to hear so the facts will not suit you.

I was bitten by a Saint Bernard.
We raise rottwielers and German Shepards both. We also have a lab,and a wiennie dog. And the wiennie dog will nip at strangers.
We raised chows for years never a bite. I had a pitt when my kids were small. Never a bite.
But I think that German Shepards bite more often than any other pet. But the rotts scare people the most. They meet people at the door. People think twice about wanting to come in. I had one person hold on to the door where even I couldn't get out. I had a 7 and 8 year old put the dogs up!

German Shephard: On the forearm, nothing serious, just a missing clump of flesh

German Shephard: (ok, this guy was abused..so I feel bad for him) He bit me on the wrist. It only broke the skin in one spot

Pekinese Mix: This little bugger got me on the nose. Blood was pouring down my face and my friend was screaming..I was just like, hey, get me a tissue.

Name: Deanna | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 2:43 AM
I don't own a pitbull. That isn't my favorite breed. But I don't hold it against someone else to have one.

Name: charla | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 2:52 AM
i happen to know 3 of the woman on here and know they dont own a pitbull olus myself so you are wrong there!!! i did own the little booger that did bite me and i am very sure he wasnt a pit!!!!

Name: charla | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 2:54 AM
i meant plus. and so what if they do that makes it more interresting that if they own one it hasnt bit anyone hummmm.

Name: winnmom | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 2:57 AM
I do not own a pibull.

Name: Bluies101 | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 3:58 AM
I have been bit twice once when i was three by a chiuahua and the when I was 16 by a pomeranian Both of these instances were not the dogs fault but lack of training from the owner! I now own 9 American Pit BUll terriers and would trust any of them with any child doing anything it is ALL in how well you train your dogs no matter what breed!!!!!

Name: Bluies101 | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 4:08 AM
And just one more thing what kind of moron leaves a child alone and unattended in the same room with ANY BREED of dog no matter how well trained???? Again another common HUMAN mistake!!!!! That being said you look at your children and tell me they are not at times little devils to each other and anything living. Then tell me that when left in a room with any kind of animal dog, cat, ferret, etc that they will not pick it up by the tail or ear or stick a finger in its nose then tell me if some one was doing those things to you and you could not talk that you would not defend yourself!!!

Name: charla | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 4:09 AM
i agree, dogs only act the way there owner has taught them to no ifs ands or butts!!!! bottum line it is the owners responcability to make sure there dogs are treated well and not abused beaten or made for illigal fighting !!! people not dogs are the problem!!!

Name: charla | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 4:28 AM
my last sentance i meant to say dogs are not to blame people are.
